From his history and his comments I'd guess we are going to be looking at a new style defense next season.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when he was with us in 1993 we ran a 3-4.

San Diego ran a 3-4 when he was with them last.

I heard we should expect a lot of new faces next year.

Look at any 3-4 defense and the NT and DE's are 6'2"+ and 300lbs+
the OLB's are 260lbs and the ILB's are 240lbs. CB's pusching 200lbs and 6' range.

Should be interesting. This whole teams needs over hauling.

Look at who has won Superbowls the past 10 years. That should tell you which defense we should run. The 4-3 doesn't work unless you have great pass rushing lineman. Clearly we don't have that, with the exception of Schobel.

It depends on the head coach. Not Nix. But most likely we will be switching because almost all of the coaches we are reportedly interested in have experience with the 3-4.

Its going to take a huge overhaul of players to transition. We have the defensive backfield but no NT and a lack of linebackers/ rush ends.

Next season will be a scratch.

It depends on the head coach. Not Nix.
Nix's philosophy will match the coach's philosophy, though, as Nix is the one choosing the coach (unless he is Wilson's puppet).

Here's an article from the NYT this morning about Merriman embracing the changes that Rivera made to their defense, turning it into a hybrid, with Merriman as an end more and blitzing lots more people. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/02/AR2010010201609.html?sub=AR
