    Packers might sign tackle

Green Bay - With both of their starting tackles still rehabilitating injuries from a year ago, the Green Bay Packers are close to signing veteran tackle Marcus Spriggs, an unrestricted free agent.

Both Andrew Brandt, vice president of player finance, and Reggie McKenzie, director of pro personnel, said they hoped the deal would be finalized in the next day or two. If the signing takes place, McKenzie said he expected Spriggs to participate in the team's ongoing mini-camp.

"What we like about him is that he can play guard and tackle," McKenzie said.

Spriggs, 6-foot-4 and 314 pounds, played in 16 games last year for Miami, starting four at left tackle. One of his starts came against the Packers and wasn't exactly a memorable audition.

He gave up three sacks to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, two other knockdowns and twice allowed his man to flush the quarterback out of the pocket.
