This year's list of playoff coaches

    1. Indianapolis - Jim Caldwell
    2. San Deigo - Norv Turner
    3. Baltimore - John Harbaugh
    4. Cincinnati - Marvin Lewis
    5. New York Jets - Rex Ryan
    6. New England - Bill Belichick
    7. Dallas - Wade Phillips
    8. Philadelphia - Andy Reid
    9. Green Bay - Mike McCarthy
    10. New Olreans - Sean Payton
    11. Minnesota - Brad Childress
    12. Arizona - Ken Wisenhunt

I would love to see Cowher here. Just love it. So don't get me wrong. (And Billick is a fine fallback candidate)

But it is more about hiring the right guy and getting the right players than it is hiring a "proven winner". Hiring Frazier, Grimm, Rivera, etc is not a kiss of death if one of them is the right guy and the team gets the right players.

I see that you have started to rationalize this in your head? Nix + unproven HC = more of the same from One Bills Drive. I'm sorry, this does not bring anymore credibility to this franchise and that is what it is lacking most. Bringing in a proven winner with a reputation is what is sorely needed in Buffalo.

No, I am just bringing some facts to light.

Like them or don't like them. I really don't care.

(Although I am not big on the Nix hire at all.)

I'm not saying you're wrong, just seems like you're preparing yourself for the same crap from this organization.

I've been saying this for weeks/months.

And I really like Leslie Frazier. Not so much Russ Grimm.

I'm not big on either one of them...we need an offensive minded coach who brings a certain swagger to the offense. Now, I know that Cowher is a defensive coach, but his offense is very straight forward and has a purpose...run the ball down your throat and punch you in the mouth. If we go the coordinator route, I would want them to look at Jason Garrett. He has directed a top offense and developed Romo into a top QB in the NFL. I do not understand why he would not get a look?

I see (and largely agree with) your point, but put me down for having a feeling that Russ Grimm is going to be a good HC someday. While he doesn't have the experience factor on his side, he has been to the Super Bowl 4 times, he's a specialist when it comes to building great offensive lines, and he's known for being old-school tough, all the while having the utmost respect from his players. If we go with someone without HC experience, Grimm is the guy I want.

Looks like several of these guys are relatively new HCs, promoted from the ranks of assistants.

I do not believe that hiring a big name ex-HC coach is the only path to success.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

                  I hate seeing Rex Ryan.

His fake white teeth and tubby figure remind me of Slimer from Ghostbusters

Well, just like Buddy Nix said, he doesn't care what your grade is right now. He'll care in 3 years.

I honestly don't know what you were all looking for as far as a GM. Wait, yes I do. You all wanted a "football person" in charge of the football and you wanted a marketing guy as the other half. You got what you wanted. Would Eric Decosta, whose way younger and learned from Ozzie Newsome better than Buddy, whose learned from AJ Smith and Butler? I don't think so.

The fact is, you can't please everybody, and people are bound to ***** no matter what happens.

Yes, you are very observant...anybody with a brain can see that! The point is, we have gone down the up & coming coordinator route, the NFL experienced guy and we know how that has worked in Buffalo. What we have never had is this organization going out and getting a proven winner...that would be a nice change, since this organization is a proven loser.

I'm loving Rex Ryan. 1st year as the head coach and guess what? The Jets Defense has allowed the fewest points around, only allowing 12.5 points per game, #1 Ranked Defense, #1 Ranked pass Defense and took us to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

We have a winner in Rex.

Then why can't the assistant/coordinator-to-head coach model work here? It's not the organization per se, it's the people making the decisions that have caused the past problems.

The assumption that the organization will always fail - always hire the wrong coordinator as head coach - is no more valid than the contention that a "proven winner" in one organization will automatically be a winner with the Bills.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't like a successful former HC in Buffalo. I'm simply pointing out that many coordinators have gone on to become successful HCs almost immediately. And there is no reason it can't happen here just because we're the Buffalo Bills.

i think having talent on the roster helps mask any "learning on the job mistakes" that you'll have as an Oc/DC making the switch.

We have about 15 players total from the roster who should stay. outside that, everyone can go.

You'll need a proven coach to coach new players up and get more out of them. If you have a couple superstars, perhaps you'll get them to overcome some bad coaching and lack of coaching up.

If you've looked at our team carefully over the years, people aren't coaching people up.
