the reason cowher has to be in play

if the bills really weren't pursuing cowher, they'd have PR people out spinning how it's not happening...that rumors are false, etc.

At this point, they are letting this get way too big to not at least be trying. They know what the season ticket sales will be like. they wouldn't let it get this out of control without shooting it down a thousand times.

you'd hear more stories on how good coordinators are.

the bills still mightnot end up with cowher, but i believe they think it's close or they would be killing this story immediately. they would directly address it to temper the reaction.

if the bills know something its how to play PR games.

And if Cowher didn't want to coach he'd come right out and say it like he did last year.

This is the one right here. There is only one job available in the NFL. Cleveland and Carolina got closed off today. The only job that realistically could become available is Dallas, and if the stories are true that Cowher wants final authority on personnel, etc., that ain't happening with Jerry Jones.

If there is only one job available and Cowher wasn't going to take it, he would say "I'm staying at CBS for another year". That could happen on Sunday (TV), but it hasn't happened yet.

Re: the reason cowher has to be in play

I said this earlier in the week. One Bills Drive has been extremely quiet this week and that's very surprising considering that they are looking for a new head coach and there are lots of candidates out there. The other interesting thing...Chris Brown has continued to knock down rumors about other assistant coaches and former coaches coming here and said that the Bills haven't contacted Grimm, Brian Schottenheimer and even Brian Billick several times.

Exactly. It is Cowher's silence that is most telling.

Exactly! Plus with the uncertainty in the NFL for 2011...if Cowher doesn't coach this year, he may have to wait 2 more years because there is a very big chance the NFL locks out the players next year.

Damn good point. You gotta believe the front office of OBD is hearing these rumors too. If they weren't trying to get Cowher they would do what they could to dispel these rumors so the blow of not landing him (Because they knew they had no chance) would not blow up in their face and seal the coffin after they dug their own grave.

They have to be talking to him and he has to be at least leading them to believe he is highly interested or they would be doing some king of PR to tell us why Cowher is not a good fit for Buffalo.

We're going to end up with Cowher and we're going to be relevant again. I can feel it.

                        Exactly!

In fact since we broke the Lombardi comments, Chris Brown has come out and put out yet another blog post on Haslett not being in the mix at this point.

Hes doing a ton of who isn't a candidate, while dropping plenty of subtle hints on Cowher.

I read on ESPN earlier this evening that Mangini is staying in Cleveland. That means that unless Wade gets fired this weekend there are no other jobs.

Eric Mangini will return for another season as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

The fact that neither side is saying anything seems to be a good thing.
