    Backup QBs look shoddy-

    ....acording to SHOUT!

During practice, left end Keith McKenzie picked off a Travis Brown pass at the line and returned it for a touchdown. Brown also had London Fletcher nearly intercept a pass, but Fletcher juggled it and rookie free agent Antonio Brown caught it. Overall, this was another woeful day for the backup quarterbacks. Brown, Alex Van Pelt and rookie free agent Jason Johnson looked shoddy, often overthrowing and underthrowing their intended targets …

I don't think we've answered the backup QB problem. Many are enamoured with an aging Alex Van Pelt, I'm not.
It's definitely an area of mediocrity at best.

At least those guys throw 'em in practice...

And if we all react like this everytime someone has a bad practice, we're not gonna have enough players to field a team.

Can we cut all the players some slack until at least TC! I know Dozer hates Brown, but WTH has Akili ever done other than get drafted in the first round???

              NOTHING!!!
Replace Donahoe with Modrak and fire the entire coaching staff!

              Then let's go to Disneyworld!

              GO BILLS!!!

Could you please explain to me how Akili Smith is an upgrade from Alex Van Pelt???

I am not seeing it. Like i said in another thread, next 2 of 3 years are great QB years in the Draft and there will be tons of solid QB's available from the free agent market or via trade who are MUCH MUCH better then Smith and who are PROVEN.

                  I'll name a few.....
-Chris Redman (will be available prolly next offseason once Boller shows he can start)
-A.J. Feeley and Koy Detmer (not stars or anything, but proven to win in the nfl and would be solid backups)
                  -Marc Bulger

And even if something does happen to Bledsoe and we want a big namer, we can always trade for Tim Couch who will be available once Kelly Holcomb beats him out to start.

That said, i still think we should keep AVP as backup for this season, draft a Clauson next year and have him backup Bledsoe for 2 or however many more years Drew will be starting here, and then give Clauson the starting spot, just like Jets gave Pennington the spot from Testeverde.
                  Impossible is Nothing.

I'm not sure about Smith ever having a good shot at success in Cincinatti. After the effort (cash) and planning committed to this team anyone that is willing to go into the playoffs with AVP or TB at the helm is clueless.

AVP always sucked in practice. He gets the job done in games. Leave him be. There isn't another QB available who can come in and learn the players / system fast enough to successfully beat out AVP.
Still searching for that offensive rhythm.

AVP is a very capable backup. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes that cost you games. If DB goes down for any length of time, however, we'll be in trouble.

We should take a QB in next year's draft and let him sit for a few years, when DB will be into his mid 30s.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Smith Sucks and our backups suck. We should all hope that Drew doesn’t get hurt. Well all of us except for Wys.
