    Chargers get coveted Cowboys tackle

    After deliberating over offers from several teams, free agent offensive tackle Solomon Page, one of the top players still available in the unrestricted pool, has reached agreement in principle with the San Diego Chargers, his agent and a team source confirmed.

    The four-year veteran, whose entire previous career was spent with the Dallas Cowboys, will sign a one-year contract worth slightly more than $1 million. The move reunites him with Chargers offensive line coach Hudson Houck, who held the same position in Dallas at the outset of Page's career, and who played a key rule in his recruitment.

    Securing the services of Page, who was sought by four other franchises and recently met with Carolina Panthers coaches and team officials, significantly bolsters a San Diego line unit that had to be shuffled often in 2002 because of injuries.

    Page, 27, can play either tackle or guard and is expected to compete for a starting job. At worst, he affords the Chargers terrific experienced depth at tackle behind starters Vaughn Parker and Damion McIntosh. For most of his career, Page has played right tackle, but his combination of size and movement skills make him a versatile blocker
