http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nfl/med/trans/nyg.gif (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg) NFL Insider Adam Schefter emailed in to report that Perry Fewell is planning to accept an offer to become defensive coordinator of the New York Giants (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg) in a move that should set some dominoes falling in other cities as well.
But for the G-Men, does this mean the team will switch to a Tampa 2? The scheme places an emphasis on speed rather than size, and also requires a roving middle linebacker who frequently drops into coverage. We'll be interested to see if the Giants go down that road -- especially given the uncertainty related to MLB Antonio Pierce (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2842) -- because if so, it could mean major changes to personnel this offseason.

i love that the giants have major issues with DB's and their secondary. Means the 10 yard cushions are in vogue for the gmen next year.

although, it'll be interesting to see how Perry's defense changes with a decent front 7.

Pierce can not play middle LB in fewell defense. If they run his tampa 2 they will have major holes to fill

No he won't.

He literally has everything in place to run the Tampa 2 over there.

Osi, Tuck, Kiwanuka, Canty, Cofield, Robbins, Alford are all perfect for that system.

At LB, Boley, Sintim, Kehl, Goff can all fit that system. Boley especially.

Kenny Philips and Michael Johnson are excellent coverage safeties that can thrive in Fewell's system as well as Webster and Ross.

The player that can benefit most is Chris Canty who can thrive as a 3 tech under Fewell.

ya i was talking with my buddy today about this, he being a big giants fan...our major issue was our lack of run defense, but with their front seven, i think they have a nice setup. Phillips and Johnson can use their athleticism to ballhawk, and it will take some pressure off of their CBs. If they can get the pass rush they used to with Osi, Tuck and Kiwi, plus all those DT's, they are gonna get lots of takeaways.

Breaking News: Adam Schefter was wrong. Surprise, surprise.

Acording to buffalobills.com:
Looks like the ESPN report that former Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell was going to take the Giants defensive coordinator post was premature.

According to multiple reports, Fewell is still mulling his options, those being the Bears and Giants.

He’s also still in talks with both teams. No word on whether this is driving up the price, but it’s clear that both clubs covet Fewell as a DC.
