Former U-M players impress Carr at mini-camp

ALLEN PARK -- Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr felt like he was at a small alumni gathering during his visit to Lions mini-camp.

Carr had an opportunity to watch two of his former players -- offensive tackle Jeff Backus and defensive lineman James Hall -- perform Tuesday.

"They're tremendous people," said Carr, who along with his staff and Eastern Michigan's staff, was invited to the mini-camp.

"To see them to be able to play in Detroit in a new era, they're excited."

Hall and Backus have developed into starters. Hall made the team in 2000 as an undrafted free agent. Backus was a first-round draft pick in 2001.
