Bills benefit from lack of coaching vacancies

Way to spin it, Buffalo News!

The Buffalo Bills are fortunate that they have no competition for a head coach.
There have been only three firings, the fewest in the last 20 years in the NFL and four fewer than the league average since 1990. There were a record 11 head coaching changes after the 2008 season.
Two of the teams that fired coaches — Washington and Seattle — have filled their vacancies, leaving the Bills alone in the market place.
The Bills haven't had much success finding a new head coach so far as several candidates have either taken themselves out of consideration or declined interviews.
But with no one else targeting the candidates the Bills are pursuing, one would think their chances of landing someone still on their wish list are good.
Whomever the Bills hire, he'll find a buyers' market for assistant coaches. There haven't been many promotions from position coaches to offensive or defensive coordinator this offseason. So that pool is fairly fresh for the Bills' next head coach.
None of the coordinators hired recently figured to be on the Bills' staff. Kyle Shanahan joined his dad, Mike, in Washington as offensive coordinator. The younger Shanahan wouldn't have left Houston for anyone else. Although Jim Haslett played for the Bills, the Redskins' new defensive coordinator wasn't likely to come to Buffalo unless he was the head coach

but they suffer from Ralph Wilson being the owner. That trumps all.

at least it will bring some clarity that no one "wanted to be somewhere else". There just isn't anywhere else to be. Even the guys hurting for a chance won't take this job.

Of course, with only 2 other staffs out of work, all we have to choose from is garbage

I'm more concerned about the coordinator positions. Regardless of who the head coach ends up being, if he can pull in a couple of experienced coordinators we've got a helluva better shot at success than some position coaches that have been elevated.

I'll take a 'rookie' at the top spot...I want the proven guys running the offense and defense.

Is Allen Wilson really this stupid?

that's probably how OBD is thinking too. They are at a disadvantage because not enough guys failed and were fired. That is the talent pool they are really looking for.

We're the only opening and everyone still turns the job down.

Says a lot about this franchise.
