That's my fear. Gaughan is usually spot-on.

Jesus we're a joke if we hire him.

Almost a done deal!?!?!? What the ****! Is Ralph trying to piss off all of the fanbase so the season tickets plummet and he can move the team? I'm really starting to believe the conspiracies. HORRIBLE MOVE! Please dear God, let this fall apart!

Why does everyone hate Gailey? The two seasons he's coached hes made the playoffs. And the year before he took over the Cowboys they went 6-10. I'm just curious, I honestly don't know much about him. I remember him in Miami and at GT.

The movie that Ralph seems to be using as his blueprint is Major League.

I dont want to start another Gailey thread and disgust people further, but there is a STRONG growing buzz among people who cover the team, who has sources, that this is happening and will happen within the next 24 hours.

May even get a press conference as early as tomorrow

I'm starting to think that is what Ralph is looking for. Loss of 20,000 season tickets, Empty stadium, and the fan support falls apart. Ralph can then say that the fan support is low and he can move the team or sell it. :puke:

I need to look into his track record before freaking out. It looks like he took the Cowgirls to the payoffs twice and went to Bowl games every year at GA Tech. He may not be the sexy hire, but lets not freak out quite yet

And he hasnt been a NFL coach in over 10 years for a reason possibly?

He was the offensive coordinator of the Chiefs last year and this year for three pre-season games before Todd Haley fired him.

Also, he was the offensive coordinator of the Steelers teams in the mid-90s when they went to the Super Bowl. I saw an article earlier today where Cowher hand-picked him to be his successor and the Steelers ultimately opted for Tomlin.

THIS WILL NOT go over well with the fan base.

Well, yes I do.. We're talking about the Buffalo Bills and Ralph Wilson.

Professional Leagues (2008-present)
Gailey was hired on January 16, 2008 to become the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. Gailey inherited a Chiefs offense that ranked at the bottom of the league in almost every category the previous season.[13] He was demoted after three pre-season games in 2009 and relieved of playcalling duties by head coach Todd Haley.[14]

So, why not wait 1 more week to see if the Vikes lose so we can hire Frazier? If they don't lose, then you hire Gailey.

Must be Grimm and Garrett refused interviews, as expected.

01-18-2010, 04:05 PM
Why not? The only thing everyone agrees on is we want Shanahan or Cowher. After that, it a crap shoot. Gailey has coached at every level with success. That is more than I can say for other current candidates everyone is pitching a tent over. Jim Harbaugh wins one game against USC and Jerry Sullivan thinks that qualifies him to run an NFL franchise.

After being out of the NFL since 1999..only just got back as noted below in 2008, only to be demoted and utlimately dismissed in this years pre-season..embarrassing to have to consider a guy who only coached on the NFL for one year in the last decade...omg!

Georgia Tech
Gailey was hired by the Yellow Jackets in 2002 to replace George O'Leary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_O%27Leary) who left to become Head Coach at the University of Notre Dame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Notre_Dame), and was fired in 2007.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-4) In his first five years at Georgia Tech, he had compiled a 37-27 record. Georgia Tech went to bowl games each year under Gailey, and won two: the 2003 Humanitarian Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanitarian_Bowl) (a 52-10 win over the University of Tulsa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Tulsa)), and the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champs_Sports_Bowl) (a 51-14 victory over Syracuse University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syracuse_University)). Gailey compiled six winning seasons in six years at the helm. However, he never defeated Tech's biggest rival, the University of Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Georgia), never won the ACC, never went to a BCS bowl, never won more than 9 games, and never finished in the top 25. The 2006 season was his most successful at Georgia Tech winning the ACC Coastal Division, but losing his last 3 games to rival UGA, Wake Forest in the ACC championship game and West Virginia in the Gator Bowl.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-5)
Gailey's name was mentioned for both the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_Steelers) and Miami Dolphins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Dolphins) head coaching jobs following the 2006 season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Georgia_Tech_Yellow_Jackets_football_team), two teams for which he was offensive coordinator.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-6) Gailey got neither job. On January 19, 2007 Gailey announced he would return to Georgia Tech.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-7)
After a 7-5 2007 regular season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Georgia_Tech_Yellow_Jackets_football_team) and losing for the sixth straight year to the Georgia Bulldogs football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Bulldogs_football) team, it was announced on November 26, 2007 that Gailey had been dismissed and his $1 million/year contract bought out.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-8)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-9)[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-10)[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chan_Gailey#cite_note-11)

Something in my gut is telling me that we will look back with fondness at the perpetual 7-9 Jauron-era. And for younger Bills fans, the Jauron era might be considered the "golden age" of Buffalo football.

I'll try to ignore my instincts for a second and search for the good in this hire. There are worse track records than Gailey's. Also, for some reason, he gives me a similar vibe to Norv Turner - two not very exciting "offensive" minds who made their names as coordinators, and whose hires were decried by their fanbases. If Gailey can produce something similar to what Norv's done in S.D., you could color me content.

UGH...This is a leteral move in terms of replacing Jauron. You can take a POS and cover it with sprinkles and it still is a POS. That is the state of this team. I will not waste my money for a ticket, flight and hotel to see this team next year in Buffalo. Money is too hard to come buy to see an inferior product. Even though I already committed to seeing them in Cincinatti.

Not surprised if this happens.

It all started when there was no real search for a GM. Russ Brandon didn't want to give up all his control to a new guy, and he has Ralph's ear, so they promoted Nix from within.
Since then, we haven't been able to get any top coach to seriously consider coming to Buffalo.
Gailey fits what this franchise does best. Mediocrity.

Very true... I am not overly psyched up about the hire, but we have some very solid talent evaluators at a minimum in Nix and Gailey. Whether or not than leads to wins is a mystery.
