The off-season is often the best season for the Bears and so it was Wednesday, when they made another middle linebacker their highest-paid player ever.

Somewhere Bill George, Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary are smiling through gritted teeth. Unlike newly re-signed Brian Urlacher, each ex-Bears Hall of Fame middle linebacker had to beg on battered knees for money.
