Where have all the interference calls gone in the Stanley Cup Finals?

ANAHEIM – I wish I understood officiating in the NHL. It's downright confusing, even for those who know the rule book inside and out.

When is a penalty called and when is it ignored?

Do the referees officiate the time and score as much as players play the time and score?

The players and coaches and general managers seem confused, too.

Mighty Ducks general manager Bryan Murray has been shaking his head and muttering a lot throughout the playoffs. He says he also has been asking Andy VanHellemond, the NHL's supervisor of officials, to explain a lot of calls and non-calls in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Ducks coach Mike Babcock can't figure out why obstruction and interference aren't being called more often, especially since the league made a concerted effort to crack down on such penalties during the regular season.

"There is more obstruction in this series than any series we've played," Babcock said Monday before the Ducks evened the Finals at two games apiece with a 1-0 overtime victory at The Pond.
