No one on this board, the media, at OBD, on their twitter or anywhere else knows whether or not Chan Gailey and Buddy Nix will fail or succeed.
No, Gailey does not bring the glory of Shannahan or Cowher but neither did the hirings of John Harbaugh (Secondary coach), Tony Sparano (OL coach), Jim Schwartz (DC), etc. These guys were brought in because someone believed they could get the job done, not because they proved they could.
Granted, we have seen this before with Greggg, Mularkey and Jauron but there was one common denominator with all those coaches and their failures and it is
TALENT!!!!
None of those coaches had enough talent to work with (and they are succeeding where they are now) on both sides of the ball. None of them had a QB and since Bruce Smith retired we really have not had a pure pass rusher. Also, we have not had an OL since Ballard, Wolford, Hull days.
What will determine how good of a job Chan Gailey does is BUDDY NIX. If Nix hits home runs like he did in San Diego: (Merriman, Cromartie, Rivers, Manning, Brees, Tomlinson, Castillo, Olshansky, Jammer, Florence, Shaun Philips, Nick Hardwick, Marcus McNeil, Jeromy Clary, Shane Olivea, Chris Deilman, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, Darren Sproles, Malcolm Floyd, Cooper.) Then this team will win, if not then we will continue to dwell in the basement.
