Dallas reporter likes the Gailey hire

    Sorry if already posted.

Ex-Cowboys coach Gailey may end up being good fit for Bills
The Buffalo Bills wanted to make a splash with their next head coaching hire. They wanted a name – a big name.
When you fail to qualify for the playoffs a single time in the decade, you need to remind your fans you're serious about winning. So the Bills courted Mike Shanahan. They courted Bill Cowher. Brian Billick, Jon Gruden and Marty Schottenheimer also were rumored to be in the mix.
But none of the celebrity coaches wanted any part of the Bills. Not only was Schottenheimer not interested – neither was his son Brian, the offensive coordinator of the Jets.
So on Tuesday, the Bills settled on Chan Gailey.
The same Chan Gailey who was fired by the Cowboys in 2000 after only two seasons as head coach. The same Chan Gailey who was fired as head coach by Georgia Tech in 2007. The same Chan Gailey who was fired as offensive coordinator by the Kansas City Chiefs on the eve of the 2009 season.
Smirk if you will, but Gailey may turn out to be an ideal hire for the Bills.
Gailey has spent a large chunk of his career developing young players, having spent nine years as a head coach in college and another two in the World League. That makes him a superb fit in Buffalo, where he inherits a team with the fifth-youngest roster in the NFL.

Some of us are hoping so.

I know it's a reach, and partially fueled by a little homerism, but how can anybody not hope that Nix/Gailey turn into Polian/Levy Part II??

Just a prime example of a writer going the opposite way of conventional thinking to generate interest (i.e. the Skip Bayless method).

I wrote him a quick msg and thanked him for the article...here was his response:

                Terry,
Thanks for the note. You'll like Gailey. I like the hire. He developed the Slash package for Kordell Stewart at Pittsburgh. He'll bring some creativity to Buffalo. The NFL is more fun when the Bills are competitive.

I like how he mentions Gailey's World League experience - that will definitely give CG an idea of what coaching the Bills will be like.

While I am on board with Gailey, listing Billick as wanting nothing to do with the bills is not true.

Stop the presses, we have a positive story! This is a guy who generally scores the highest nationally when his mock draft comes out in April. Does he get help? I don't know but I'm fairly sure he's one well connected journalist. I'm personally loving this offseason!!

That must be where I've heard his name. Gosselin seemed familiar (in a positive way), but I couldn't remember where I had heard his name before.

I am thinking it may be the fact that the guy is not very good at throwing a football. That is usually a prerequisite for the QB position...

Great article. From the anti-Clayton/Schefter/Schopp/Bullfrog/Sully/etc etc etc. crowd...a man with real football insight. Sure he makes some mistakes, Fitzy, Billick, but he is esteemed. Also his response to Terry is classy. I never would have expected that out of Texas.

Cowher suggested Gailey for a reason.

I'm not entirely certain, but isn't it Gosselin who puts together the best set of ratings for Special Teams, as well?
His opinion on draft stuff, is always worth looking at as well, he does seem to have some sort of 'in' when it comes to how the professional scouts are thinking.
