Who was he? One of the biggest cancers in the organization last decade. His role was to scout upcoming free agents and advise the franchise on whom to go after. He failed at just about every turn.

Any day now...it was mentioned he may stay through draft, but won't make any impact. He lives in Florida, and really isn't a part of the organization. Buddy isn't going to let him play anyway.

The Front Office
-Fired-
Tom Modrak Assistant General Manager (the drafts and free agent signings have been mediocre at best, and that is his job)
John Guy Director of Pro Personnel (house cleaning)
Doug Majeski Coordinator of College Scouting (average at best drafts)
Gretchen Geitter Director Community Relations (the genius behind many of the Bills PR gaffs)

it's about ****** time.

New GM...
New Head Coach...
New coaching staff...
New Dir. pro players...
New director of college scouting...possibly or even likely.

I'd say that qualifies as 'big changes'.

Everybody can now move on, and start ****ting their pants/pulling out their hair/leaping off of bridges over Modrak being here and the potential coaching staff not being hired yet.

Once we get through those tragedies, we will finally be able to start slitting our wrists over FA, and ready the shotgun for the draft. Rumor has it that there is going to be an additional tax on ammunition going into effect in NYS very soon, so if you actually live there you might want to load up on slugs now.

No one should survive signing and then cutting Dockery and Walker.

Add in the botched trade last year (or maybe the year before), another screw up with trying to move McCargo to Indy (failed physical), and the slew of free agents who just haven't done much for us... yeah he should be canned. Id also add in the Peters mess, it may not all be his fault, but as Pro Player Personnel guy, he was right in the middle of that one.

Modrak has already stated he doesnt want GM duties, he wants to focus on the draft, I assume he also means this side as well.

This could be interesting.

Great news! But...if Modrak hasn't been fired yet...that probably means he's staying. Still, it is a good move and Nix is definitely warming up to me. I'll be able to judge better after the 1st draft...

Jan Reimers
01-21-2010, 07:26 AM
I'm glad Guy is gone, as he seems to be a poor judge of pro talent. I wouldn't mind seeing Modrak stay, however, because he was known as a very good evaluator of college players, at least before he got here.

He and Nix might do very well together.

CoolBreeze
01-21-2010, 07:28 AM
I'm not sure of all the hate for Modrak.. I think it has been reported that he only put input towards the draft. He was often over ruled by Jauron and Brandon. Didn't I read for example, that Modrak wanted Cushing, but was over ruled in favor of Maybin? How many other countless picks did this happen to? I could be wrong. Either way, Modrak isn't leaving, he, Nix, and Gailey are all tied closely. You can bet John Guy's replacement will come from their connections as well. Remember, they all "Are going to be on the same page". :)

DraftBoy
01-21-2010, 07:29 AM
Great move! I wouldn't mind them clearing out the entire Front Office, keeping Modrak and rehiring all new scouts, and such. Though that's asking for a lot just three months out from the draft.

BigZ
01-21-2010, 07:30 AM
One of the knocks I read about the Bills organization is the lack of human scouting. I hope Guy is replaced by 3-5 people, one who's got the title, who go to the preseason games and can evaluate talent.

If Mondrak stays we need the same number of people going to the college games.

I think Nix will do that. This should only be the beginning.

Agree. I think Modrak's input has been restrained a bit due to the organizational barriers. Didnt someone post a short time ago that he actually wanted Cushing over Maybin? Good example if true.

So what internal candidate is ready to step up to Guy's job? Is it the admin of marketing or did we go cheaper and less experienced with the janitor team?

Did they also promote Brandon again to Grand Poomba?

It has to be done as buffalo billy as humanly possible.

I think that's why it might be a mistake to can Modrak now. Regardless of how good he is, starting from scratch on the college front at this point would probably be a bad plan due to the sheer volume of players to evaluate.

I'm glad to see Guy hit the road. But Modrak had a pretty good rep for a long time, perhaps he wasn't really our problem. With Nix calling the draft picks instead of Jauron & Co., Modrak's value might be evaluated differently.

Yeah I highly doubt they'd can Modrak at this point in the draft evaluation process. I think it's much more likely they clean house after the draft, much like Pioli did in KC.

Guess I should have stayed up a little later last night to see this great news!

However...is anyone else a little frightened that he was the other candidate for our GM position? As in he was doing a horrible job, but if Nix wasn't around, Guy could have been promoted to GM instead of fired?

That thought alone scares me and it should clarify how bad this organization has become, imo.

I think they had Nix in mind all along for the position and only interviewed Guy to satisfy the Rooney Rule. Perhaps if Nix wasn't here, we might have went outside the organization? (who knows if this would have happened knowing Ralph).
