S-Chad Cota


<center><img src="http://www.billszone.com/images/players/nfl/cota.JPG" border="2"></center> WGR and WNSA have reported the Buffalo Bills have signed safety Chad Cota. Details have not been released. Heading into his 9th season in the NFL, Cota has played for Carolina, New Orleans, Indianapolis, and St Louis. In 125 career games, he has 15 interceptions, 1 for a TD. <ul>
<LI>1995- Chad tied for the Carolina lead in special teams tackles with 20
<LI>1996- Led Panthers defense with 5 Ints, and had a 6th in the NFC playoffs vs Dallas
<LI>1997-Led Panthers with a single-season team record 153 tackles in addition to two interceptions, a sack, eight passes defensed and a fumble recovery...
<LI>1998- Moved to New Orleans...ranked 2nd on team in tackles with 96, 71 solo...added five passes defensed, four ints. (16 yards), two sacks
<LI>1999-2001 3 year starter for the Colts, averaging 90 tackles a season. Grabbed 4 ints in that time

<B>College Highlights </B><BR>
A mainstay on the Oregon Ducks "Gang Green" defense, Chad was a first-team All-PAC 10 selection and an All-America second-team selection by NFL Draft Report his senior year (1994). Chad started every game for the Ducks and helped them to a PAC 10 title and a berth in the 1995 Rose Bowl, finishing third on the team in tackles with 98 stops in addition to seven pass deflections and two interceptions.

WR James Jett

<img src="http://www.billszone.com/images/players/nfl/Jett1.jpg" border="2"><br>According to WNSA, the Bills have signed WR James Jett to a contract. The West Virginia product played for the Raiders for 11 years before being cut along with Sam Adams this spring. Jett, a favorite of Raiders owner Al Davis, didn't catch a pass last season after catching just two in 2001. Along with Tim Brown, he was one of the Raiders' final two links to their days in Los Angeles. The following is a career snapshot of Jett, NFL's Fastest Man in 1996.

<li> Saw action in all 16 league games in 1994 with one start at Denver. Caught 15 passes for 253 yards and averaged 16.9 yards per catch to rank second on Raiders.
<li> 1995- Contributed 13 catches for 179 yards.
<li> 1996 -43 receptions for 601 yards and 4 TDs...He was third on the team in receiving. Won NFL's fastest man competition
<li> 1997-Had most productive season as a Raider catching 46 passes for 804 yards including an AFC best 12 touchdown receptions
<li> 1998-Starter at wide receiver in all 16 league games for Raiders, finishing second on the team in receptions with 45, yardage with 882 and in receiving touchdowns with six...Average per reception of 19.6 ranked first on the Raiders and second in the NFL
<li> 1999-Tied for third on team in receptions with 39... third on team in receiving yards with 552... <li> 2000-2002 Saw playing time reduced due to injury, and the additions of Jerry Rice and the emergence of Jerry Porter in Oakland.

<B>College Highlights </B><BR>
Four-year letterman in both football and track at West Virginia. As a senior wide receiver, averaged 20.1 yards per reception on 19 catches for 382 yards and four touchdowns. Added 217 yards on 29 punt returns for 9.3-yard average and 116 on six kickoff returns for 19.3-yard average. Had three catches for 101 yards, including 78-yard touchdown and three punt returns for 42 yards in final college game against Louisiana Tech.

I beleive I read somewhere that Jett won an Olympic Gold medal in the 400 relay in the 1992 Olympics
