What official role would you see him in if Ralph ponied up the money for that kind of "assistant"?

He wouldn't be offensive coordinator, as Gailey made it quite clear he will be calling the plays for the time being.

CG did say he might have someone with a OC title, but that he would still run his own system and call the plays. Maybe they give Reeves that title as well as Asst. HC and he acts as a collaborator/consultant to Gailey throughout the game planning and game day decisions.

yeah that certainly sounds logical.

Normally I would doubt this sort of move would happen in Buffalo (and I'm still skeptical for obvious reasons), but if Reeves doesn't demand much, I could see them pulling the trigger on this, as it would help satiate the fans desire for a name/winner on the staff.

it could only benefit the team to have someone like reeves on board

They did it with Dick LeBeau. Just consulted the defensive side.

Dan Reeves quote from today:

“He hasn’t reached out to me, but I coached him in Little League and he might give me a chance. He might come back and try to see if I could help him out. I tell you, if I could help Chan Gailey out, I would certainly be interested in that.”

Reeves interested in helping him out!

Most exciting thing I heard today.

Gailey might be scared if he struggles. He could get fired and Reeves takes over.

I don't think Reeves would want much.. He's been out for 7 yrs, and I think he just wants to help Gailey. Certainly could be like mentioned before, have the title of OC, but more of Asst. HC. the man knows the game.

I don't know if that was a joke or not, but if it wasn't, you're actually right.

A lot of coaches especially 2nd and 3rd chance coaches hesitate to have big name coordinators and assistants.

I would be extremely happy with Reeves as a member of the staff in any capacity. I had actually hoped he would be a stealth candidate for HC, but I knew he couldn't handle the hours with his heart. I don't think Gailey would feel threatened by Reeves for that reason.

This would make me, and I'm sure a lot of Bills fans much more comfortable with the Gailey hire.

Make it happen!

I would love it but I would be pleasantly surprised if it happens. This is Chan's team and he may feel threatened by him and be looking over his shoulder too much...How many threads will be started Fire Gailey and hire Reeves after every questionnable decision...

I dont think Reeves will be a coach. He had a job with Dallas about two years ago where he worked in their FO as a consultant. Id expect him to take a similar role here. He is on my local sports stations every week and speaks often about how he wouldn't mind being back in football. He was a huge part in getting Georgia State a football program (FCS level)

AHC/Off. consultant... team consultant... pretzel guy... whatever. Good things will happen by bringing him in here.

ESPN's take:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/features/rumors

Chan Gailey has not begun filling out his staff too extensively yet, but once he does, one of his coaching mentors is up for the task of joining him. According to BuffaloBills.com (http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2010/01/21/reeves-interested-in-assistants-job/), Dan Reeves, who gave Gailey his first NFL coaching job in Denver, has expressed interest in joining Gailey's staff in some capacity. Remembering back to Reeves' dalliances with the Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal), the issue that became the deal-breaker was a clause in his contract that would've required Reeves to work a certain number of hours per week. Will that be an issue again? Stay tuned.

If he's only looking to work a certain number of hours a week, then it would only be in a consultant-type role.
