John Murphy: Bob Sanders a candidate

Said a source said Sanders is a candidate for the DC job.

This 3-4 and 4-3 is so confusing. I think I might want him over that guy who was the DC in KC when their D let us score 40 points.

That is actually funny because when I was told on the 23rd that Gailey would offer to retain Sanders the source never told me in what facet he would be returning in.

Then Chris Brown wrote that release and was a little vague when he mentioned Sanders and what he would be doing...

      VERY interesting....

I would like Sanders over Pendergast. But does this mean we stay in the 4-3?

I was told Gailey really wanted to make the switch and was looking over what was needed to do so.

Then Pat came out with a source that said they ARE switching to the 3-4.

      The Bills are an enigma!

I can't stand this. I don't know how Pat and Sal and the guys at Buffalo News do it.

At least the Cowboys and Chiefs are relatively open about their operation and they don't tend to throw the media curve balls like the Bills do continuously.

He has run practically all 4-3. But I wouldn't rule out them switching if Sanders told Gailey he can do it.

He is a solid coach. Did wonders for Kelsay.

Actually a hybrid seems more likely. At least for this season.... But he hasn't been hired yet! He is just a candidate.

Look at the new updated Coaches list on BB.com. They don't even put what both Sanders and Giff Smith are going to be coaching. Sounds like they still don't know.

                    LOL. I probably will!

Although it doesn't mean they were wrong. They said the Bills were high on Fangio (and maybe they were). The other source however, about Pendergast may have been completely off base as he said there would most likely be a hiring within 48 hours.

I'm telling you that I am having a very bad last few months information wise.

I've reported two things right so far in the past few months, A. Gailey was in the middle of contract negotiations with Buffalo on the 19th. B. Bob Sanders was asked by Gailey to stay in Buffalo.

But I got the Garrett rumors all wrong, and now this defensive coordinator business might make me look like a fool for believing them enough to report it.

I'll stand by my sources for now, but if Sanders becomes the defensive coordinator I will take some much deserved hate!

                      Question on the old hybrid...

It seems to me that a hybrid would keep opponents guessing, and could be very beneficial to us. It could, hold on to your hats, maybe, just maybe make us a challenge to prepare for.

I am still high on McClain at #9, and I think he poses problems for opposing teams, big problems. Our secondary is good enough to make anybody pay for a rushed throw.

Am I way off on this, and a hybrid will confuse our guys more than the opponent? Would it be such a CF to play in that we would constantly be confused, and missing assignments?

This leads me to ask if Bob Sanders is the kind of guy that we think could help us avoid this CF. Gailey is an offensive guy...and if he is calling the plays, we should really step it up for a DC.

I have seen nothing but good about Sanders, but no specifics...what do you guys think? As you said, B-Dubya, he got production out of Kelsay, so that is pretty much like turning water into wine, but I don't want to get too worked up, since he only got him to 5 sacks!!!

                      Thanks for any input.

I just wanted to make sure you knew i wasnt attacking you.

Re: John Murphy: Bob Sanders a candidate

I think a good coach makes use of the what he has on the roster. The Pats were a 3-4 team but played a lot of 4-3 this year because of the personnel.

I think 4-3 has become confused with the Tampa2. There are a lot of 4-3 alignments far more aggressive than what we've played.

Look at what Spagnuolo did against the Pats with a 4-3 base alignment.

No good coach should be so stuck to their ideas that they cannot alter them

Unless your sources actually work within the front office dynamic, I would say they were the ones throwing the curve balls, not OBD.
