Comments:
11/7/09- vs. Hofstra- Certainly tall enough. Could use some more muscle. Show good poise in the pocket. Its nice to see a guy that goes through progressions such as he did close to the goaling in the 2nd series. Hiller, and LeFevour both go to the primary target almost exclusively or throw it away if the primary guy isn't open. Devlin is showing in this game something that separates him from others... he can go through progressions. Throws a nice ball. He has adequate zip and appears to be accurate enough. At times, he will sit in the pocket too long... that can only be a problem if he doesn't have a mental clock and takes too many sacks. Nice throwing motion, maybe a bit too over the top, but then again maybe not. Very quick release. Nice fade route in the endzone, over the defender, for a TD. It didn't hang in the air too much like some QB's tend to throw it. That allows the DB to adjust and break up the play. He looks pretty polished. The clear leader of the offense, it shows in the way that he handles the offense. If I were to be critical, I would only want to see him make all throws like deep outs. That's not to say he cant make them. I think he could, just that you want to see it. There's not a lot to not like about this kid. Nice TD throws on a slant. Takes a bad sack, fumble in the early 3rd. Tries to do too much at times, needs to make sure he just tucks the ball and eats it in some sack situations.

11/14/09- vs. Navy- Another decent job finding the open guy, going through progressions during the first drive. A few off target throws on the first drive, throwing behind the WR on one play and putting too much air under a down field long throw. Gets lots of protection, may need to adjust his mental clock to the speed of the NFL... but again looks through the defense for the open guys which is refreshing compared to several of the prospects who go almost exclusively to the primary guy. Does not get rattled and is calm and poised in the pocket. Another throw that's too high over the middle and long (1st-2:18). His throws aren't fast balls either, he puts average velocity on his throws. Probably adequate velocity, not slow lobs, or slow enough to allow DB's to adjust. Will need to show scouts that he can make all the throws; especially the deep routes. Certainly has very good ability to keep the chains moving. Takes a sack (1st-0:23). But, he didn't try to force the ball which can lead to mistakes. Nice check down to the RB for a 1st down (2nd-6:15). Fairly rugged, can take hits when he runs. So, the issue I have with Devlin based on this game is this: He had a chance to play a decent squad and show his play wont drop off and answer some of the questions scouts may have about level of competition. But, he was pretty pedestrian in this game. He didn't step up. he didn't regress either. But, the question now firmly remains about whether he can play well against good competition. Furthermore, he was off target a bit on longer throws and didn't show he has an NFl arm yet. We know he can manage a game, but we still don't know if he can play well against anyone, or that he has an NFL arm.

12/12/2010- vs. New Hapmshire (Quarterfinal)

1st Qtr:
14:55- Goes through progressions but decides to run instead of throwing to the open man at the 35.
13:32- Plenty of time and he throws it right at the defender.
11:52- Throw low and behind his man, skips off the carpet.
11:10- Off target throw but still converts for a 1st.
9:19- Nice quick throw over the middle.
1:40- Another throw behind the receiver short. Had a quick release but the motion was weird, the ball had no spiral. His foot wasn't pointed. He needs to work on his footwork.
1:18- Goes through progressions but not fast enough and takes a sack.

1/7/2011- vs. Eastern Washington

1st Qtr:
10:47- Nice short run. Doesn't have quick feet.
10:18- Nice read and throw short.
5:14- Nice job managing the offense on this TD drive but nothing huge from Devlin.
1:51- Nice touch on the deep cross. Good spiral, average zip.

2nd Qtr:
14:54- INT but it wasn't Devlin's fault, it bounced off the WR.
* Looks a bit small and thin. Questionable size for the NFL.
12:34- Looks off the primary guy and tries to throw a fade to the right endzone. A bit tto far left.
9:48- Another good job reading the defense.

Overall, He did a nice job of managing the offense. He threw tight spirals and found the open guys by reading the defense. His game management was impressive. Mechanics were good, arm strength was decent but not great. It would have been nice to see him light up the field but that didn't happen. I see him being a 3rd or 4th rounder. I think he will battle with Ponder to be the 5th QB taken.
