Good trades, maybe.

Of course I can't see the cap info. but I know both have large cap hits.

Is this shades of the Gilmour trade of 1992? Will Phaneuf turn the leafs around? Will he put on cow print stockings and sell milk products? I think not, I hope not, It can not.

Good trades by Brian Burke. Phaneuf and Giggy are huge upgrades. If I was a Leafs fan I'd be very pleased. And Keith Aulie is almost as big as Myers - 6'6" 208lb.

They don't have many forwards, now, though. Hagman was probably one of their best forwards. Now it's just Ponikarovsky, Kessel, Stempniak, and Grabovski. I guess they could just try to rely on their Marlies, like Bozak, to fill the void.

The Leafs are starting to acquire some real talent...first Kessel and now Phaneuf. Burke knows what he is doing and will soon have that team in the playoffs.

They still suck.

Phaneuf has been getting lots of golfing in over the last few years, the practice is gonna come in handy.

IMO, the Leafs just got a whole lot better today.

Phaneuf hasn't played all that well the last 2 years - you all are reacting to his "name." Toronto traded away it's top too point leaders - who's going to score for them now? This won't help them this year, if they can add some offense in the future, it could help them in future years.

No, I know what Phaneuf is and he is a VERY good player. He needed a change of scenery and this might just be the best thing for him

Phaneuf is one of my favorite D-men in the league. Real good hitter.

Wonder which one of our guys he'll wreck first.

I would be seriously po'ed if I was a Calgary fan right now. Immediately when I saw Phaneuf was traded I thought that Toronto must have sent alot of talent to Calgary, but IMO they sent them alot of very average players. Wonder what Iginla thinks about this deal.

Toronto gave up 4 decent players, but I believe all of them have expiring contracts this offseason. They obviously had no intentions of keeping any of them, and maximized their value. Phaneuf is a great player, and the young D prospect that Calgary gave up also has some very nice upside.

Calgary didn't get a bunch of schmucks, though. Hagman has 20 goals, Stajan has 15, and Ian White has been Toronto's best D-man this season (that's not saying much, I know, but he's been solid). Mayers is the only bum in the deal.

despite the recent downspiral, i think the Leafs made a good trade. (that pains me to say that) the change of scenery may help turn him around. (i hope not)

wait.. so the leafs have no offense, they can't score at all so they trade away all their offense for a slumping defenseman with a 7 mil a year contract?

They have to be planning to move someone else, because on the face of it this move makes no sense.

Giguere posted a shutout last night and Phaneuf was nailing people. He also got into fight where he did some damage.

All of these Phaneuf haters out there (not just billszone)... sayin how he's been poor the past while and what not.... none of you know ****.... he's a beast... the past 3-4 years he has been top 3 d-man in the league.

Those who have centre-ice and watch west coast games and calgary games know what I'm talking about. People who have been watchin tons of hockey the past 3 years know how good he is. People who play hockey know how good he is. All these hosers out there who don't even play puck need to STFU. "Phaneuf hasn't even been that good" - please, morons

Toronto gave up a lot... but they gave up a lot of scrubs; a lot of mediocrity. Phaneuf WILL payoff for them. He isn't just a performer - he's a leader and a great locker room guy. You can already hear Ron Wilson and Brian Burke talking about what a presence he has brought. Few d-men can bring what Phaneuf does.
