All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
There is work to be done and things to be learned. We are going to try to get the old look back - or something close to it. We also know there are bugs. A thread will be started to report bugs and then we can pass those onto the host.
Thank you for all the patience and support with this - hopefully this will greatly reduce the crashes and other site issues we have had lately.
Please use this thread to report any issues you come across

Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
Bills offered their assistant general manager position to Doug Whaley, according to a league source.
Whaley, who has served as Pittsburgh’s pro personnel coordinator, would be the number two to recently-promoted general manager Buddy Nix. Members of the Steelers front office would not be surprised if Whaley takes the position.
Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
That would be a nice go-get for the 2nd in command position. As well, he would easily be in line if things go well to get the promotion to the GM spot when Buddy decides to call it quits. Keyword being if things go well (i.e. winning football).

Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
Why is this guy any good, again?
All his Wiki page mentions is this:
Whaley gained unwanted notoriety in 2007 when an inappropriate e-mail that he had sent to Steelers assistant coach Larry Zierlein was inadvertently forwarded by Zierlein to a large number of high-level NFL employees, including commissionerRoger Goodell. The e-mail reportedly contained a pornographic video. Zierlein apologized for the gaffe, and it is believed that neither he nor Whaley were disciplined by the team or the league.
...which is AWESOME, but doesn't tell me much about his football resume.
Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
This is old but he was a candidate for the Chief's GM in 2008.
Doug Whaley is the Pro Personnel Director for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chiefs' owner Clark Hunt said he admires the Steelers' organization which is a reason why Whaley should be considered a candidate for the Chiefs' GM job.
Whaley is homegrown talent for the Steelers. He played high school football in Western PA and went on to play four years at Pitt. He's been with the Steelers for 11 years.

Not knocking this because I really dont understand. But at first glance this seems like we're returning to a committee approach again. Where does this leave Modrak, and how much input as an Asst. GM does one have? I feel like there's too many cooks in the kitchen once again.
But again, this is my initial reaction so I'm not afraid to admit I'm misreading.

I don't think it's a committee. Whaley will fill the role John Guy had while backing up Nix. It's quite likely Nix knows he's only going to be GM for a few years so why not groom a successor? At least Ralph will know him when the time comes.

I dont think he has much to do with replacing Guy.
But I think you're spot on with the second sentence about being groomed for Nix.
Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
I think its a great hire to be quite honest. This franchise seems to finally have direction to it.
I don't care about the video. It was a mistake, I'm sure the embarrassment he received from the action served as punishment enough and the fact that Goodell didn't come down on him means it was no big deal.
The fact is, he is a great football guy to groom under the 70 year old Nix.

Exactly what I was thinking....now all we need his for him to immediately get fined for flying the bird at a bunch of 'phins fans, and we'll know he is our kind of guy!!
It is kind of ridiculous that he ever got thrown under the bus for this email anyway. He sent it to Zierlein, who then forwarded it to Goodell and co.
This is a great hire!! Well, when do all of the "just another hire from inside the organization...." or the "our whole staff has AARP cards..." guys get to tear this move apart? You know the Holy-Rollers will be all over his email debacle.
Re: NFL.com Bills offer Asst GM job to Doug Whaley
The only thing I disagree with you on Beebe's kid, is good things this season. If you mean a respectable draft and noticable improvement in game calling and offensive scheme, then yes.
I think that it will take at least a year, including two drafts and free agency periods in order to finally become competitive in the AFC East again.
