View Full Version : If Kyle Orton becomes available .....

could he prove to be Brees-lite, with both being former Boilermakers?

With rumour that Denver have made inquiries about McNabb, I think Orton might be an even better option than our own moves for McNabb.

He has a 29-18 W-L record as a starter with a 51-39 TD-INT record.

Every season his QB rating has improved going 59.7, 73.9, 79.6 and finally 86.8 in the seasons he's started.

If we got a 3rd for Whitner, I'd definitely consider offering a 2nd for Orton.

Everything I've read says the Broncos want to bring Orton back, so I wouldn't count on him being available.

If perchance he was, he'd be a very good stop-gap (imo) for whatever developmental QB prospect we get. Because yes, whoever we get will need development since Bradford won't be there at 9.

Bradford neeeds developement too... Plus he should let that shoulder heal IMO... If we drafted Bradford I wouldn't expect him to start in 2010... or any drafted QB for that matter unless they prove they are light years ahead in their developement

Bradford needs some development, but nothing like what the other prospects need. I wouldn't necessarily want him to start in 2010 either, but out of everyone available, he's the best option to possibly start his rookie season.

Unfortunately, that's the trend now. Nobody seems to want to bother sitting their rookie QB. Why do that when most teams starting rookie QB's actually reach the playoffs?

Orton really faded down the stretch and lacks arm strength. When conditions get tough, his effectiveness fades.

The Windy city got rid of him for a reason. Seems like a dome QB to me.

Orton is not the type of QB who will win you games but he doesn't lose games either.

He'd be better than anything the Bills have had since Bledsoe.

So are you, or I.

Im not a big Orton fan, he's Trent Dilfer 2.0, we don't have the D to make him win games.

Not a fan at all.

I'd rather just give Brohm the starting job if Orton was the alternative.

I'll pitch in for the "keep Orton out of Buffalo" billboard.

I could probably drink Kyle Orton under the table. May as well make me QB.

I still think David Carr would be a very capable fill-in while we groom our long-term QB.

I still think David Carr can be a long-term solution for someone. He had a tough situation in Houston but he always showed that he had skills to work with. He has a very good arm and can run as well as any QB in the league minus Vick.

I also think Kyle Boller can be a good QB. He was actually playing well before they went in a different direction in Baltimore.

The biggest problem Carr faced at Houston was the LT situation. With the immediate retirement of Boselli after the expansion draft, they did nothing to address this situation until they picked Duane Brown in 2008.

All they did was stick him behind a succession of lower round picks, guards being played out of position etc (sounds familiar?) resulting in him being sacked senseless.

The advantages of Carr are:

1. He costs nothing and will be comparatively cheap
2. He's rebuild a lot of his confidence behind a decent NYG line and has looked good in relief of Manning
3. It allows us to go with one of Davis, Campbell or Bulaga

What people forget is that last year Carr outperformed Vick

and between 2004-06, Carr out peformed Vick with a higher QB rating and throwing for over 1500yds more during this period.
