Drew Brees put on a dink and dunk clinic. How many passes over 25 yards were even attempted? I'm not counting YAC. It felt like 90% of his passes were 5-10 yard passes. It worked. Who Dat! Glad they won too.

Reading these boards, a lot of zoners want 75% of the passes to be 30-40 yard passes. Long ball isn't the only way to be productive on offense.

no, we just want dinks and dunks that lead to 1st downs. Not dinks and dunks that go 3 and out.

the reason it worked was because of the threat of the long ball. NO kicked ass in the regular season by having a big play offense. That backs the D off and allows the dink-and-dunk stuff to be effective. But you can't be effective dinking and dunking without establishing the long ball first.

exactly, to successfully dink and dunk you need a QB that can consistently put the ball in the right spot. The spaces are tighter in the short zones and the ball needs to be placed near perfectly for the RB/WR/TE to catch and run with it. Otherwise, its a 2 yard completion. We don't have a QB that can do that consistently...

Another thing to consider is that Brees took advantage of the Colts playing not to give up the big play. Brees took what they gave him. The dink and dunk was not their bread and butter. Even with open wr's 10-20 yds out , we decided to dink which only went for 3 yds.

Knowing where the markers are and keeping the ball moving is where we failed miserably on our dink and dunk game... Not being able ot keep the opposing D honest with crossing routes over 10 yards and shots down field destroyed our O's ability to do much. Lots of that has to do with our young inexpeirenced OL we fielded last year

but the fact was Trent wasn't taking shots down the field nor was he consistent in the 10-20 yard range

He was a broken record at times with always taking what was given to him. However opposing DC's knew this and they gave us the underneath stuff knowing Trent could not resist. Opposing D's, for the most part, always had a spy in place to snuff out the dump before in materialized into much.

So basically all opposing D's had to do was have the mid and long range options semi covered and give the underneath stuff a 5 yard cushion.. That was the game plan against the Bills much of the time when Trent was in there.

Now was Trent actually taught to always take what was given... or was he gun shy and lacked the confidence or is it all of the above.

I always felt Trent sucked at moving targets, much of that probably has something to do with the OL not keeping him upright enough which erroded his confidence... However he even struggled with 3 step drop quick slants which should debunk not having time to throw theory some.

Dinking and dunking works. Patriots and Eagles dink and dunk more than any team in the NFL. But we are just inept in everything we do on offense. Thats the difference.

Brady can also throw the ball 70 yards on the fly...that is the difference. You have to respect Moss, because he is going to hit him, you just don't know when. So he dumps it off to Welker when you over commit to Moss. If you don't commit to Moss, he burns you deep. If you have both of them covered he hits Faulk or Maroney.

Our QBs were not really a threat to go deep. They could make the throws, so you didn't have to respect it. A QB that could make the throws would have given us 3-4 more wins last year.

Trent can make that throws, but he is mentally destroyed. He has no confidence in himself or his team, and the feeling is mutual.

Edwards version of dink and dunk would be throwing 140 swing passes to Fred Jackson, while atempting 1 look a game towards any WR.

That equals not progressing through your reads as a QB and 8 in the box from the opposing defense.

The result - lots of work for Moorman and losing football.

I've seen too much of that lately and need to see an alternative in playcalling from our new coach and a QB who progresses through his reads under center.
