IOC threatens to nix tribute to late cousin

The International Olympic Committee has so many rules it makes the NCAA appear lax, and as of Monday evening, officials were disputing multiple parts of Miller’s helmet. He may either have to paint over them or, as he put it, cover them “with electrical tape.”

The one part Miller wasn’t anticipating trouble with – and the one he will fight the hardest to keep – is the simple inscription “Matt Man.”


That’s the nickname he used with his cousin, Matt Schoals, who died in 2007 from complications of a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia. Schoals was 18. Miller has honored Schoals ever since by painting “Matt Man” on his Buffalo Sabres (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/buf/;_ylt=ApIP4KbFn_n7_FhB1EeZdftXtLV_) helmet.


“I’ll contest,” Miller said Monday, unsure exactly what the process entails. “My aunt and uncle and my family, it’s important to them. It’s important to me.

I doubt they make him take it off. Drury says that he hopes the whole ordeal gets Miller fired up for their game.

I guess I can see having "Miller Time" covered, although he is clearly not advertising, but they have no right to have him cover up the other stuff.

And to have Quick cover anything is ridiculous. He probably won't even dress for any games as it is.

Yeah if they make a big deal out of the tribute to his cousin that is just stupid IMO. I totally understand having Miller Time covered though.

Covering up or removing "Matt Man" would be nixing the tribute. Therefore, asking to cover it up or remove it is threatening to nix it.
