USA gets an extra day off, and Canada gets to play some schmuck for a play in - probably Latvia or Germany

After a game like that a day off will be MUCH needed.

I thought they were saying it looks like Canada gets Russia once the pound Germany.

I think this does mean Canada and Russia meet in the quarterfinals.

This explains the playoffs.

I hope that we can get the #1 overall- I want to avoid the Slovaks in the medal round. I'll take the Swiss a 2nd time

A game like tonight gives this young team some well needed confidence. It also gives Ryan Miller a break with the bye, which is a good thing for the US and the Sabres.

I was also thinking that it can only help with ratings. I know it's not an elimination game or a medal game...but you gotta figure that after playing a good Canadian team and beating them on their home ice...that should spark interest in the remaining games. Maybe more people will start talking about hockey and team USA at the watercoolers.

According to the link, USA is #1 and won't face the Slovaks until the gold medal game, if either get that far.

Barring an upset, we get Switzerland again , then the winner of Czek/Swe for the semi final

THAT is the significance of this win. The U.S. team gets a few much needed practices (and some rest) and will play the WEAKEST team that advances due to being the #1 seed. Being the #1 seed and playing the weakest team boosts the U.S. shot at making it to a medal game significantly.

Canada almost lost to the Swiss...I'd take nothing for granted on the world stage.
