Lot of "big names" seem to be hitting the market, among them Julius Peppers.

He will not be franchised according to this report:

It looks like that franchises are taking advantage of the uncapped year and getting rid of the big contracts witch is a very smart thing by owners. The contracts are really getting out of control. Peppers is not going to get what he wants this year contract wise unless the redskins pay up.

I agree Peppers is a Redskins type of FA. He will be overpayed & underproduce just like their big FA signing last year.

An NFL executive told SI's Peter King that he will be "surprised" if Julius Peppers gets $10 million a year in free agency.

For comparison, Jared Allen makes over $12M annually. If the exec is right, Peppers may have to settle for a below-market deal despite the forthcoming uncapped year. The development would be a major disappointment for Peppers, who Carolina previously offered to make the NFL's richest defender.

Multiple league sources tell the Boston Globe that free agent Julius Peppers is too big a risk for any team to invest in long term.

"I wouldn’t touch him," said an ex-Panthers personnel man. "On the field, he’s a freak athletically, but it’s whether he shows up or not. He’ll go two and three games and do nothing but take up space. Then he’ll have two sacks, a forced fumble, a pick, and change the game." According to an AFC scout, Peppers "could end up costing some personnel guy his job...If you pay this guy, I don’t think you’ll see a double-digit sack [season] again the rest of his career."

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi confirms the "widespread" belief around the league is that the Panthers will not use the franchise tag on free agent Julius Peppers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed that Peppers will not be tagged. It's rare that teams allow once-in-a-generation talents like Peppers leave, but the Panthers have determined that he's simply too expensive. While Peppers turned 30 last month, he has plenty left in the tank physically. Clubs in the market for his services, though, will have to gauge his worth while factoring in his tendency to vanish from time to time in games.

A league source tells SI.com's Don Banks that free agent Julius Peppers will be disappointed if he thinks the Patriots will pay him top dollar.

"If he's going for the big money, Peppers never signs with the Patriots," the source said. "If it's about winning and he's willing to take less to play in New England, maybe he ends up there. But he doesn't sound...willing to take the discount." Peppers turned 30 last month and has never played in a 3-4 scheme. It's uncertain what defense New England will run in 2010.

Some team will overpay for the guy...For a guy that has so much talent he has too many strikes against him. 1-He is 30 years old and many DE skills start to diminish 2- he is very quiet and you will get talent for 6-7 games but you will not get a leader on or off the field. He has no interest in being a leader. A lot of money for someone who is not a leader 3- 2011 could be a lockout year and due to his age you may only get one 'productive' year. 4- He will be an absolute freak for 3-4 games, decent in 3-4 games and disappear for the rest of the games.

I have a better chance of getting signed by the Bills than Peppers.
