i guess i should ask this since we are talking about the buffalo bills, but the bills did offer George Wilson a 2nd round tender, right? And not Ralph Wilson?

They are trying to work out a long term deal with Wilson, I was told.

laugh it up now, but when the bills release their entire secondary a week before the season and then tell us ralph is the replacement, it won't seem quite as funny.

I'll be pissed if some team signs him. If I'm the Washington Redskins i think long and hard about signing Wilson... to fill their hole in the secondary. He's better then anything they'll get in the draft in the 2nd round this year.

If you can get a second round draft pick for him when you already have Byrd and Whitner, and possibly Scott if they want him back-- you'd be pissed with that?

I'd rather trade Whitner to the 'Skins. What can we get for him??

Forget the Skins, don't be surprised if Fewell or Jauron convince the Giants or the Eagles that he could be a good safety for them.

That would suck.

Forgive me, but I'm not getting how getting a good second round pick for a player at a position we're already solid with isn't a good thing.

It would be like signing Bryan Scott, letting Wilson get taken by someone else and getting Scott and a second round pick for Wilson.

To me that's solid.

I wouldn't be pissed at all. Getting a 2nd round pick in this draft is like GOLD.

Getting such a big return on a player that cost us nothing is a good deal.

I would love a 2nd for Wilson, he is our backup safety? c'mon. We got Byrd in the 2nd round last year...

because Wilson is better then Scott and Whitner

Getting a second rounder would be a huge coup for Buffalo. It's not gonna happen. I'm cool with keeping Wilson, though.

Ya but both are solid starters. A 2nd round pick will go a long way in finding another starter in the more important aspect of a 3-4 defense and that's front 7 help.

That may or may not be, but either way we are not talking about a PBer here. Wilson is a solid player, and seeing as how this draft is loaded with talent in the first 3 rounds I would take the 2nd rounder and use it on a top notch prospect.

I wouldn't be surprised if a team or two pursue him. He has proven he can start in this league and some teams are desperate for help in the secondary.

I would be very surprised if a team gave up a 2nd round pick in the best draft in 10 years for a S who has only seen spot duty.

If I'm a GM I take a look at the talent in the draft that I can get who are younger.

this isn't the best draft in 10 years... and it's a horrible draft for secondary players, once you get past the top 3 or 4...

We can match any offer sheet they give him, right?

Would you be OK with it if Eric Berry fell to us at 9?

Many feel it is the best draft in 10 years and I think the Pats knew that which is why they kept trading down last year to collect 2010 picks.

Either way, you are right about the secondary aspect of the draft, although I still think a 2nd rounder is too valuable to use on a guy who has never played 16 games at age 28.

Like all drafts, there are areas where there is undoubtedly strength in depth. This year, it would appear to be on the liines, which for us, is a good thing, now we are committed to a 3-4 front. If we can get a 2nd round pick for Wilson, that would be undoubtedly worth doing.
I have no problems with trying to get Wilson signed up long term, btw. I like the guy, and after his transition from one side of the football, to the other, this last season, he finally really seemed to know exactly what he was supposed to be doing, and did it very well.
I think the 2nd round tender, fits pretty well, and is ultimately a 'win win' situation. If we can get him inked to a long term deal, we win, but if someone comes after him hard, we will still get an extra 2nd round pick we can use to reinforce the lines, when we still have starter quality guys available to play.
