Jets get two picks for Rhodes

NEW YORK -- The New York Jets traded safety Kerry Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday for a fourth-round pick in this year's draft and a seventh-rounder in 2011.

Rhodes is expected to move into the starting spot opposite All-Pro Adrian Wilson that was vacated when Pro Bowl safety Antrel Rolle signed as a free agent with the New York Giants on Friday.

"He fits a lot of the things that we do defensively," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said in a statement, "and the prospect of having him alongside a perennial All-Pro like Adrian Wilson is very exciting."

The Jets received Arizona's original pick in the fourth round; the Cardinals acquired another Friday night from Baltimore in exchange for wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

The deal came a day after Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said he expected Rhodes to participate in the offseason program in a few weeks, and play in New York this year and beyond "unless something changes."

Apparently, something did change -- and Tannenbaum jumped at the chance to deal Rhodes, whose future with the Jets was uncertain after a shaky season in which he feuded with coaches over his role.........

Add the 4 and the 7 up and you get about a late 3rd.

Actually you add the point total from the Cards 4th round pick this year to the point total of the Cards 7th round pick in nexts years draft on the draft value chart and you get a mid to late third rounder

Kerry Rhodes was traded for equates to a mid to late 3rd round draft pick in this years draft. The Jets were likely asking for a there third and the Cards offered up something that equates to that. Hence D.Whitners value is that of a late 3rd to likely late 4th

well...I knew what you meant but what I meant was that in REALITY....you get what you get. Unless of course they package the picks to move up or something. You knew exactly what I meant just as I knew what you meant. The 4th round pick (122) is worth 50. The seventh (218) is worth 4.2. The third round's (56-96) points range from 265 to 116.

It is still 62 points shy of the last pick in the 3rd round. And, that's not even dinging them for the 7th not being this year.

The contract is a factor as well. Rhodes is due $12M in the next 3 years. He played really well in 2007, but hasn't played as well since. He isn't a physical presence and doesn't like to tackle.

Whitner is cheap money, although his contract is up soon and he will probably want a new one. He is more physical and a better tackler than Rhodes, but he doesn't make a lot of big plays. I think they could get a 3rd for him anyway.

I think the key for the trade to Arizona was a combination of them having a big need (after losing Rolle) and having Donnie Henderson as a DB coach. Henderson coached Rhodes in NY when he was an up-and-coming player.

Rhodes was god awful last year. He actually lost his starting job at end of year.
