Bills re-sign TE Klopfenstein

The Bills addressed their thin numbers at the tight end position Thursday re-signing Joe Klopfenstein.

Klopfenstein (6'5" 262) was originally signed by the Bills last season on two separate occasions (Nov. 18, Nov. 28). He appeared in just the season finale for Buffalo making one reception for 11 yards in the 30-7 victory over the Colts.

A former second-round pick, Klopfenstein is known as a good blocking tight end. The 26-year old has 38 career starts with 34 receptions for 397 yards and two touchdowns.

Buffalo has only one other tight end under contract in 2009 fourth-round pick Shawn Nelson. Derek Schouman, a restricted free agent, was tendered a qualifying offer last week. Jonathan Stupar is an exclusive rights free agent.

you know its a slow day when Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bills resigned Klopenstein. You would think he would be trying to break bigger news

I love getting text updates from the Bills with news like this. It's almost like they are antagonizing me and trying to piss me off even more.

Note to self...cancel text updates.

You CANNOT win in this league without a backup FB/4th-string TE!

I'm actually pretty happy with this... He's a very good run blocking TE. With the Bills apparently leaning toward the run in 2010 (Even drafting Bradford or Clausen wouldn't change that) it makes sense to have at least 1 run blocking TE.

He was a non-tender RFA. By being non-tendered, he can be signed for the minimum, which is less than the tender amount.

Several teams have done this with guys, non-tendering and then re-signing them. It is a cost-saving move.

Crystal ball says that the Bills will return to the 2 TE set and reinstate Capt. Checkdown as starting QB.
