No comp picks awarded to Bills

The Bills weren't awarded any compensatory picks in this year's draft.

    (not a huge shock)

Honestly, I think there are some shananigans that goes on with these picks...no way the Pats deserved 4 more picks this year. This is a common theme with that organization and the NFL.

Ahh the Patriots need some more help because they weren't the darlings last year that everyone wanted. What a bunch of horse ****.

They lost Larry Izzo, LaMont Jordan, Heath Evans, Jabar Gaffney, and Lonnie Paxton. You can throw up now.

Yeah I can see how those are huge losses and deserve compensation.

If Ralph wasn't such a cheap ****, Marv was never GM, Thurman deleted his Twitter account, Trent grew a *******, Nix was 20 years younger, and Chan was Chin, we would have gotten 10 picks!

Why can't this team do anything right? Why must we endure this decade long ass-raping? Why????? WHY!!!????

Seriously, the Pats? L to the Izzo? La Montell Jordan? Well, I guess Belicheat was place the warm towel on Goodell's neck before proceeding to give him slow head. This just makes me dislike them more than I already do...

Re: No comp picks awarded to Bills

Rule's for always getting comp picks,

                        1) never sign a UFA from another team were the contract has naturally ended
                        2) only sign free agents who have been cut due to a high salary (ie: a cap cut), or released from a current contract
                        3) always have some of your own UFAs sign with some other team, ie: lowball your own UFAs

These rules work better for good teams because their FAs are more in demand as opposed to week team's free agents generally. Since good players rarely hit the open market these days, a team like New England can replace backups with the same quality player and receive compensation at the same time. Week teams end up overpaying for questionable players hoping they would become starters but end up as clearing house for players on the way out of the league due to to the new players coming in on the next draft. 24 of 32 picks went to teams who had a record of 8-8 or better and the last 5 picks overall went to losing teams.

I first noticed these trends when Pittsburg always seemed to get comp picks, win Super Bowls but never sign any FAs.

                          Excellent post.

The Pats play the FA market that way, they only sign "unrestricted" guys if they feel the value is more than the pick they are giving up. They concentrate on signing guys who were cut from other teams or non-tendered, as they do not count towards the formula. It is what well-run teams do.

The Bills actually used to make a killing with the compensatory process when Bill Polian ran the team. Lately, they don't get the picks because the players they sign offset the players they lose. However, since 1994 (the first year they had them) Buffalo has received 24 compensatory selections. That means going into this year they actually had received more compensatory selections than the Pats, although the 4 the Pats get this year gives them 26 since 1994.

The last picks awarded usually go to losing teams, same order as the draft, because the rule states 32 picks must be distributed but the formula often dictates less than 32 are 'earned'.
