Culpepper to Bills: 'I can be the guy'

ORLANDO, Fla. -- I spoke with the NFL's most proactive free agent Monday.

Daunte Culpepper strolled around the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes, happy to be recognized and hoping to plant an idea.

Culpepper doesn't have an agent. The three-time Pro Bowler represents himself, and what better way to market himself to prospective employers by attending the NFL owners meetings, a convention of executives and head coaches from all 32 teams?

Wow. Well I give the guy credit for representing himself and pounding the pavement like that...but we already have enough QB's that turn the ball over like it's their job, so no thanks Daunte.

If Nix and Gailey think Culpepper is the answer I think full panic mode for the fans will be warranted. How many years has it been since he was decent?

He couldn't be any worse than what the Bills already have on the roster. He might actually be the best of the bums.

If their plan is to draft a guy and groom him on the bench for a season, Daunte wouldn't necessarily be the worst guy to hold down the position for a year I guess.

            He's
            • nowhere near a good starter
            • but better than when he first came back from his injury (with the Dolphins)
            • and possibly a bit better than what's already on the roster.

Chan Gailey didn't sound like a HC ready to sign Daunte Culpepper. Asked about Culpepper, Gailey said he hasn't seen him play in a long time- Adam Schefter

Obviously the two major concerns are injuries and turnovers. If he could prove completely healthy I wouldn't mind adding him to the roster. Turnovers don't bother me much because he won't be depended on to shoulder the load as with his former teams.

Washed up or not, I feel we need a QB vet just like we needed a couple 3-4 vets to make the transition easier for the rest of the players. It scares me that Brohm, Edwards or potentially a rookie have Fitz as their "experienced" guy to look to.

Buffalo is and has been so weak at the QB position for so long, it's probably becoming a place where the likes of Culpepper (and other have beens) can make a prod like this and expect some serious consideration.

I would have a problem with Culpepper. He isn't good at all. If you want Culpepper starting, you might as well just stick with Fitz.

God, we're just starved for anything, aren't we??
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
