Bills OLB Aaron Maybin reported to the team's offseason program at 246 pounds.

"If I gain another 10 pounds I think I’ll still be around the same speed, the same explosiveness," he said. Maybin, last year's 11th overall pick, is currently set to compete with Aaron Schobel, Chris Kelsay, and Chris Ellis at outside linebacker. At 6'4/256, he'd have the look of a prototype 3-4 rusher.

Ohh, I care and if he's doing martial arts training with it, it may help him to keep that weight on.

Yes as you've shown so often in the past to be accurate...

No I don't have a magic 8 ball, but I may stop by KB Toys on the way home from work and pick one up.

i think he should only gain about 5 more pounds and then stay at that weight and work on his pass rush moves... since he missed all of tc last year, we are basically getting a 1st round pick this year....

Aaron Maybin has NEVER been 252. They may have reported it at 252, but there is no way he actually weighed that much.

He was officially weighed at the NFL combine at 249. I don't think it's out of this world unbelievable that he was at 252 at one point.

He was 252 at his pro day, he beefed up for it and that weight was verified by many sources. He has never played at 252 though.

in reality he should just play at 245lbs... his frame cant carry that much more weight during a season. just focus on staying at 245

I remember having an argument with someone on this board about Maybin's weight.

He was listed on the Bills site at 250 pounds during the season which I said was impossible looking at pics of him playing during the season.

Since then he has been reporting about the weight he is putting on, I believe he said he has added 6 pounds a week for a couple weeks which is 12 pounds.

So now he is 246 which means he was about 234 pounds during the year which makes perfect sense when you look at his pics.

It's great that he has added weight but he needs the other 10 pounds that he says he will add.

6'4 256 would be a nice frame for a 3-4 OLB.

How do you know? DeMarcus Ware is the same height and plays at 260-265lbs.

Well, I suppose he has time to add 10 lbs (the right way - not eating pizza) before camp, but I would have expected him to have added it by now. We're almost in April...when was the last time he played in a game? December? November? If he hasn't been able to go up in weight all this time, I have to wonder if he'll be able to keep it on once the season officially starts and he's more active. I suppose if he's really active right now training himself, that may account for it. But somehow I think he'll have a hard time maintaining such a high weight. But like people have said around here, if he can maintain 245 or so, that might be good enough.

I don't pretend to know how much Mabin weighed in college or leading up to the draft, and i couldn't tell you from first hand knowledge how much a player needs to weigh to successfully play rush linebacker in a 3-4 defense. What makes me curious is the fact that Maybin weighed in at 246 after gaining at least 10 lbs, and expectec to add another 10 before reporting in at OBD as per his own twitter. That means he weighed no more than 236 before his own offseason regimen to put the weight on, and maybe as little as 226. Obviously, while he seems to add weight easily, he does not keep it on easily and naturally. His inability to carry that weight without effort is a bit of a red flag for me. Is he always going to have the problem of losing weight annd wearing down during the season, or is he going to be able to carry that weight more easily as he matures?

For Maybin? Basically Jan. 1, 2009 against USC in the Rose Bowl.

In 2011 the UFL may be the only Pro Football being played in the United States.

it doesn't appear this team will go anywhere this season so they should stand him on the sidelines for another season. they can wait for next year to see if he gains anymore weight. :sarcasm:

i think in time as his body matures in a 2-4 years, he will be able to stay at 250.... i know cameron wake had this problem and it took him some time to mature so the same could be true for maybin... i know i know, he is a first round pick, so he should produce right away.... im just saying we might as well work with him and be patient. i think it will pay off... his first step and quickness is explosive and he just needs to get stronger imo...honestly though i think maybin will be unreal in 2 years... he has to much talent... u can see it, he just has to learn that the speed rush wont always work, and that means getting stronger and having better technique... that comes with time. should he have been the pick, no probably not. i wanted orakpo. does maybin have the potential to be a cameron wake or jason taylor, yes... if he doesnt produce somewhat this year, i would be worried. but i think he comes into his own this year with a full tc, and then next year i think he takes off...

if you watch the preseason last year he did a decent job against max starks, and then did a great job against jeff backus, he showed the talent. now its about getting stronger and being able to stay at 250

He can succeed at that weight, 246lbs is hardly what I'd call undersized, especially seeing how this kid has room to add another 10lbs, but that type of muscle gain takes time, give him another year or two to add more muscle, in the meantime hopefully he produces anyways.

Lol? Maybin is 6'4'' with almost no fat on him. He could probably carry 260 if he adds the weight over time.

The way drops and adds weight he sounds more like an actor getting ready for movie than an NFL player. At least he has some future, its just not as a football player.
