PITTSBURGH - For linebacker Kendrell Bell, the pain of losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game in 2001 was stronger in his mind than the pain he felt in his ankle when the Steelers and Patriots met at the start of the 2002 season.
Because of that, Bell convinced everyone around him that he felt fine, that the high ankle sprain he had suffered before the start of the season wasn't bothering him.
"I felt like I needed to be out there because we owed something to New England, so I was going to lie (to the training staff) even if I couldn't play," said Bell. "But in the end, all I did was injure myself more."
