I'm sure one of the Scouting gurus here on Billszone has heard of this guy... What do you guys think of this RB, Deji Karim? Can anyone share some insight on him?

Scout.com has learned that the Eagles worked out Southern Illinois running back Deji Karim (http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&p=8&c=1&nid=4748776) on March 31st and that they will also bring him to Philadelphia for a visit on April 6th and 7th.

A Scouting Combine snub, the 5-foot-9, 209-pound Karim put together one of the best individual workouts of the offseason. He amazed scouts with his 4.40 speed in the 40, 43-inch vertical and 10-foot-3-inch broad jump. There are some who will confuse Karim with being a scat back, but don’t let his size fool you – he also benched 225 pounds 19 times in front of scouts at his Pro Day...

Karim participated in the Texas vs. The Nation Game and put together a solid week of practice. He showed his versatility as a runner and a receiver, and impressed scouts with his burst. His burst and explosion are what scouts are so intrigued with, and he displayed those skills at the Northwestern (http://northwestern.scout.com/) and Southern Illinois Pro Days.

The Eagles have scheduled a private workout with him.

...

"The guys that are coming out now, there's a bunch of those 5-9, 185-pound or 195-pound, quick-as-a-cat water bugs that are running backs-slash-receivers that might give you a little bit of a punch on the field, maybe make a big play."

I did a report on him for Draft Nasty;

He was the HS teammate of QB Sam Bradford and finished third nationally in the FCS rushing, 1200+ yards, and 11 TD's.

Extremely small at 5'9, and was nicknamed The Horse at Southern Ill. He's what you described though a scat back. He sees a hole and hits it like a bomb. He's so damn quick its fun to watch.

Here though is my favorite stat about him;
579 Career Carries, 0 Fumbles

He is only a one year starter and tore his PCL in 2008 so that's a concern, he needs to work on his pass catching, along with his blocking to become a regular 3rd down back.

What RB in the NFL would you compare him to?

In terms of size, based on what you are describing, he seems a bit like Ray Rice coming out of college. I think I remember the knock on Rice being that he was too light.

Rice also possesses good ball security.

Anyway, thanks for the info; sounds like he could be a good pick-up for the Bills.

He's not like Ray Rice, he doesn't have that kind of power and I dont think he'll ever be an every down back. I think he's a smaller version of a Jerious Norwood. Faster player but just as electric, good third down scat back option, if he can learn to catch a little better, he could be a hell of a player.
