Bills' pursuit of McNabb was inspired

The Buffalo Bills deserve credit for thinking big.

They failed in their quest to acquire quarterback Donovan McNabb, but Bills fans should be thrilled their front office at least tried something that bold.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins on Easter night for a second-round pick in this year's draft plus a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2011 draft.

We don't know exactly what the Bills were offering. The Redskins' second-round pick was the 37th overall, four slots better than the Bills' second-rounder. The Bills might have sweetened the deal with other picks or players.

Until the Bills start drafting much better and building a good nucleus and show a committment to winning players will continue to shun the Bills.

Hey guys, in a way this is not Buffalo's fault. Looks like they did every thing they could to pull him in.

In the end, it was McNabb's decision not to come to Buffalo:

McNabb, who is in the final year of his deal, made this happen by making it clear he wasn’t going anywhere else but Washington. When the Buffalo Bills expressed interest – and even were willing to give McNabb a contract extension – he passed on the offer. When the Oakland Raiders sniffed around and showed willingness to trade for the quarterback without an extension, McNabb indicated to the Eagles through his associates that he’d retire.

Donovan McNabb got his ticket out of town and a chance to exact revenge from the city that never fully embraced him.

Now it obvioulsy doesn't discuss the details of the offer but...they were laying it on the line with McNabb...they know what he's worth.
