Sabres project cut in losses, revenue boost

Jun. 9 — Acknowledging that the Buffalo Sabres could lose as much as $8 million next year, executives from the National Hockey League franchise say they have a business and marketing plan that will turn around the team's finances.
The Sabres provided a glimpse of how they are reviewing their internal spending practices while they rebuild community goodwill lost during the past two years.
According to a preliminary financial overview covering both the team and HSBC Arena, obtained by Business First, the Sabres lost $39.3 million during the 2001-2002 season and are projected to lose $26.7 million during its current fiscal year, which ends June 30. The numbers are from a draft review, dated March 6. Rochester businessman B. Thomas Golisano acquired the team in April.more
