Packers' free-agent signees must defend history of injury

Green Bay - The only two unrestricted free agents signed by the Green Bay Packers to bolster what was a soft defense last year have been anything but durable and reliable in the past.

Linebacker Hannibal Navies and defensive lineman Chukie Nwokorie were both signed to play prominent roles next season. Navies is expected to start somewhere at linebacker and Nwokorie is scheduled to play power end behind Joe Johnson and contribute as an inside pass rusher in nickel and dime packages.

Both received $500,000 signing bonuses. Navies signed a three-year, $3.08 million pact. Nwokorie signed a two-year, $1.775 million contract.

For either deal to pay off, the player will have to stay healthy. But that's not either one's track record. When it comes to answering the bell, neither Navies nor Nwokorie would get many gold stars
