    Sleeper Pick for Nine

We've all (myself included) discussed the usual candidates at #9 until its been beaten like a dead horse.

I have a new candidate for a sleeper pick at this spot; OLB Jerry Hughes.

My buddy Brian Galliford over at Buffalo Rumblings has raved about the guy and talked to some people who think he could FLY up the draft boards. Many now consider him the best pass rusher in the entire draft; over Paul-Pierre, Morgan or any of those guys.

Im hearing a lot of good things about this kid too, and it should be noted that Modrak and Nix had an odd reaction when Hughes' name was brought up at media luncheon last week.

If by sleeper you mean horrible, than yes I agree.

I think that reaction was because they want to steal him in the 2nd or 3rd.

A reporter asked Modrak about Jerry Hughes, and Modrak responded by looking at Nix and saying something along the lines of "Well, I know Buddy loves him so maybe he wants to talk a little more about him."

There is a zero percent change Hughes is there in round two.

Read this article on Rumblings about Hughes.. I think its VERY telling.

A new Football Outsiders regression model called SackSEER predicted early success for Bills DE Aaron Schobel, among many others.

Didn't Nix say that players flying up draft boards or raising their stock after the season is crazy?

What about Kindle? He's my preference/darkhorse at 9 if Okung isn't there.

Depends on whose boards they are flying up. He was a beast in college, so it's hard to believe that NFL scouts are just noticing him. I'd bet that he's been fairly high on a lot of NFL teams' boards for a while. I know that I've read a lot of good things about Hughes as well.

And don't forget that Nix valued production for the long haul. I don't think there's another DE in this draft with his career resume to bring to the table.

He looks like a guy that Buddy'd draft and say "I don't care what y'all think. Ask me about him in october" or something like that.

Well according to this model Aaron Maybin will average nearly 8 sacks per year for his next 6 years in NFL.

Although the quarterback position receives most of the notoriety for producing first round busts, the 4-3 defensive end/3-4 rush linebacker ...

If we go lineback at 9 this is the guy I want. He's much better than Kindle, Hughes would be a great pick. I'd rather trade down but have no problem taking him.
