Tim Tebow NEVER in Bills plans!

There are reports that the Bills were “heartbroken” when Tim Tebow came off the board to Denver in the bottom of round one, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with Buffalobills.com, Bills GM Buddy Nix stated in no uncertain terms that Tebow was “never in their plans.” Here is his direct quote.

“I love Tim Tebow,” Nix told Buffalobills.com. ”We spent a lot of time with him and he’s a great kid and he’s going to do well, but he was never in our plans. We never intended to move up (into the bottom of round one) to take him. I will admit we tried to move up, but it wasn’t to take Tim, it was another player and he was gone so we didn’t.”

Sounds to me like Tebow's agent was trying to scare a team into jumping up to select him. It worked. Denver thought he was going to get picked by the Bills, so they traded up and gave up a ton! :rofl:

Good guess. I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes, Bulaga, and Dan Williams were all on their radar at some point.

It's interesting...I wonder how I would have felt about the Bills trading up to get one of those three. I actually don't think I would mind it, depending on what they gave up. I'd have a hard time letting go of both the 2nd and 3rd round picks, but to get one of those three would have been great.

Well, the flip-side of this is Nix isn't dumb enough to tell the world that the Bills were "crestfallen" (as Rich Eisen put it) when Tebow went to the Broncos. I have no reason to not believe Buddy, but it could very well be that they were targeting Tebow and the deal never materialized. Remember, everyone's still in spin mode. Having said that, I'm glad we didn't give up that much for "The Project".

Yeah, it was probably Bulaga or maybe even Dan Williams. I'm assuming it was a player that went somewhere in the 20s, and those two fit the bill.

I think I actually believe Nix on this one. It would be one thing if we'd already taken another QB, and thus Nix wanted the new guy to feel assured that he was their guy. But we haven't yet, and there's no way to be sure we will.

There's been half a dozen instances where Nix seemed pissed off about a rumor and went out of his way to correct it for no real apparent reason. I mean, what reason does he really have to care that Schefter said we wanted Tebow? I think it just annoyed him b/c it was off the mark.
