I honestly don't know anything about the guy. Hopefully, he's a player. I am glad they addressed the line (and passed on those QBs), though I would have preferred an offensive tackle in that spot.

Cody will eat himself out of the league, he's a 2 down player. No one will run when he's in, but they'll pass all over because he can't move at all.

Saratoga Slim
04-23-2010, 05:56 PM
Not a sexy pick.....but NTs are not sexy people. We needed one, and whether it's him, Cody or one of the others, you're getting a big dude who clogs up the middle, is good against the run, but can't rush the passer and only plays first & second downs. I don't really know enough about how to evaluate these NTs to have a strong opinion, so I guess I'm going to be good with it.

By the way - nice call Pat Moran!

Cody's a big name but from what I've read about him (and what I've heard from him) I don't think he has the commitment to be an impact player in the NFL. I think he's got big-time bust potential.

Davejr51179
04-23-2010, 05:58 PM
I am really shocked, with Charles Brown, Bruce Campbell, Cody, Cam Thomas still on the board. Troup would have been around in the 3rd

Buddo
04-23-2010, 05:58 PM
Going to run the 3-4, you need a NT. I have no idea if this qualifies as a 'reach', but I think you have to trust Nix et al, on this one.
My personal preference would also have been OT with this pick, but Troup certainly 'fills a hole', and from what I recall, unlike some of the other 'space eaters', is actually pretty athletic, and potentially an all 3 downs player.

No getting LT fixed at this point. The remaining OTs have weakness problems and even so will probably be gone by the next round.

This team appears committed to failure. First, picking a luxury RB that the team's own head coach owned in the college ranks, and now completely neglecting one of the most important positions in football and a glaring hole.

I wanted a NT we got one...

Now to do some DD on him.... But there have been lots of picks in this draft that haven't followed the Mocks out there....

Did the Bills reach.... or did they trust their board... We shall see, but to me this pick is more about the Bills talent evaluation... and yes that makes me nervous to, but if the Bills board likes Troup, then that is who they were going to pick

TigerJ
04-23-2010, 06:25 PM
Obviously, the Bills think they know something about Troup, versus Terrence Cody and other players they could have chosen. In the past, sometimes when they thought they knew something they really didn't. We'll see if this regime is any different. In Troup's favor versus Cody, he should be a 3 down player versus Cody who is probably a two down player unless he gets in shape.

For all the people that didn't want Troup,

Look at all the teams that are running a 3-4 and need a NT and are passing on the others. Look at the OL that are still on the board. Just because we have opinions or sites with opinions we reference doesn't mean it matches up with the NFL board rooms. I think this draft is a big example of that.

In theory, a 3rd round OT is quite possibly more 'talented' than what we have on the roster. Mind you, we'll probably pick McCoy in the third. ;)

I might catch some flak for comparing College and the NFL to High school football but....

I was in a position to be a the starting for my H.S. Team and got the job over a 350 pounder (me at 290ish) simply because I would be able to play four down football. Maybe we are trying to go with a cohesive unit that will play every drive together.

The Bills liked him better than Joseph,Cody & Thomas because he moves better and is not carrying a lot of extra blubber. He's a solid 310-315 and won't gas, in addition to being extremely strong and athletic.

Also heard gaily said he was a well mannered character guy...hard worker..you have to watch that with these guys as they eat themselfs out of the league.

You're aware we have a new staff, right?

By the look at this draft they are not any different!!

Right. Then they should have traded away Kelly, Thomas, Reed and B.Smith and forfeited all the playoff appearances.

I think we got them long before 10 years ago !?!?!?

This thread reminds me of the Jairus Byrd thread last year. Funny he was picked around the same spot, too. He turned out ok.

Lol, how? We just had a very, very good draft. The old FO would have taken at least 3 DBs within the 9 picks.

Let me guess, you though going OT or QB early solves the problems of the world?

Troup just replied to my question, asked him what size he plans to come in at.
