All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
I think Ellis may have a good shot to be an OLB and show something there...
I've been disappointed with Ellis. I thought he'd be a solid DE with the Bills. I think he'd be worth a real long look there, since OLB is a big question mark right now.
We're loaded in the front 7 for the most part...the defense overall, if this draft pans out is pretty solid....not many glaring needs left....I think the rest of the draft with the exception of a pick will be offense
All in all, I think if you step back and look at the draft so far the Bills are transforming themselves into a 4-3 cover 2 to a bigger up front 3-4. I like the direction the defense is going in.
While I think Nix is beginning to build a core for Gailey's 3-4 defense, I don't think they will be that good for a while unless Edwards pulls off a near miracle as defensive coordinator. Stroud and Spencer Johnson are going to go through an adjustment period with their change of position. Torell Troup and Alex Carrington are both going to be rookies. Maybin and Ellis are unproven, while Schobel (if he doesn't retire) and Kelsay join the first two in having to learn a new position. What I hope is that they will be a very good defense in 2011.
Between the defense and the offense, I think that it's the offense that actually has the most potential for improvement in 2010. That's mostly due to the hope that Gailey and his offensive staff can do a better job of coaching the offensive players who are already here than Van Pelt and company. While some slim hope remains that Buffalo can draft a QB and LT who can come in and contribute, I think the more realistic hope we should grasp and hold (not that it's even close to a sure thing) is that the new staff can fix Edwards orhelp Brohm polish his game and help Bell and Meredith continue to develop. I'm not caying that Bell and Meredith are going to turn into dominant linemen this season, but with another year of development and a stronger coachng staff, they should be at least somewhat better than they were last season.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.
I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I'm not sure it's as difficult to transition guys from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Look at GB - they transitioned (granted, they had a lot of good DL to work with), and ended up ranked #1 against the run in 2009.
I think they run a 3-4 system that's more of an attacking system for the DL, rather than one where they simply take up blockers, I think most of our current DL are veteran enough to make the switch fairly easily. Having Dwan Edwards around to show them the ropes probably helps.

I think we need another NT and OLB to really solidify the defense. Maybin is like an extra pick this year. Instead of a first round DE we picked a first round OLB. He just needs to produce.
