    Draftboy, and other posters

What's your take on Buffalo's two picks yesterday? After a bit of research, I really like the Carrington pick, he's huge, and should be able to contribute as a 3-4 end.

I'll admit, I was, and still am, a bit baffled at the 2nd round pick. Why they passed on Cody is a mystery.

Is this DT going to be able to come in and start at NT?

They might have been afraid of Cody eating himself out of the league.

I heard one of the draft talking heads yesterday say that Cody averaged being on the field less than 25 plays a game his college career at Bama. He is a big risk IMO due to his weight and unless he really gets in shape can only right now be a rotational DT.

I think with Troup you get a guy with a better work ethic and a guy you can count on staying on the field for both first and second downs. He's not the big name from the big school, but I think he's a guy the Bills targeted and wanted there.

The difference between Troup and the others such as Cody,Thomas, Joseph etc. is that Troup has far better feet and isn't carrying around blubber. He won't wear down like the others, while still maintaining a high quality of play.

He actually showed up for college as an overweight kid and completely transformed his body. This guy is mega strong and solid. Feel good about this pick. He's very talented and you can instantly plug him in as the starter.

Troup is a lunch pail kind of guy and can be on the field fr all 3 downs. Cody, like previos posters have said, is currently a 2 down player and may eat himself off the field, wait till he gets paid....

I also heard Troup can carry an extra 20-30 pounds and will as he gets older while Cody needs to drop weight to compete for more then 2-3 years.

We need to wait for Op's reaction to the 2nd round.

If you have nothing constructive to say, you are a moron. Or, if all you do is ***** and moan aobut every pick, you are a moron.

So far, no morons have shown up in this thread, except for Ghost, lol.

Re: Draftboy, and other non moron posters

I think that they did some good work. We are switching to a 3-4 defense. These guys are two guys that can come in and start on day one, or at the very least contriubute to the rotation right out of the gate, and complete the transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4.

They didn't like any of the OT that were available enough to take them, and apparently along with 31 other teams they dont think that Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy are NFL franchise QB's. I think you are going to see them take a high upside developmental QB today and probably a Rush LB or project OT. They have at least 2 project high upside OT on the team that were either rookie's or 2nd year guys last year. Plus half of them were hurt. I think they didn't see much difference in the OT's that they already had on the team and the ones that were available at 41 and 72.

But Torrell Troup is a protypical 3-4 NT. And apparently he is unmovable and a beast against the run. Maybe a little early, but as soon as they took him all the other NT's went, so I think hoping for him to be there in the 3rd would have been a pipe dream. They think he can come in and start from Day 1 and anchor the dline. Liek everyone else said Cody is too big a risk for this team with his weight and dedication problems. The ravens have the luxury of taking a chance on him. Troup is STRONG, and can play the entire game.

This guy Alex Carrington, I was a little skeptical of. But apparently he is once again a prototype 3-4 DE and a monster against the run. Once again, all the reports say he can at the very least come right in and be part of the Dline rotation.

I think that they committed this draft to grabbing the best player available and a game changer on the offensive side, which they also think immediately makes whoever plays QB better, as well as the Oline. They got the only guy in the draft that could do that in CJ Spiller, which I LOVE. Then they committed to completing the transition to the 3-4 from the 4-3. Looks like they are going OLD SCHOOL. Run the ball, and stop the run. Buddy Nix talked about this for the past 4 months. He said this is a 2-3 year plan that is going to make the Bills good for a long time, not selling out for one or two years and quick fix. He also said they were going to take guys that had 2 to 4 years of SOLID college production, that we injury free and character guys. All three of these kids started 3 to 4 years, have pretty much zero injury history and each one of them is described as a leader, hard worker, and FOOTBALL player. None of them have a history of anything but being top notch guys on their team. Also they all are guys that will come in and contribute from day 1.

Keep your eye out today for John Skelton, QB from Fordham. He is 6-5, 245 with the strongest arm in the draft, and the ability to move when needed. Obviously he is extremely smart coming from Fordham. I think either in RD 4 or RD 5 today he becomes a Bill. He needs some work and would be 2 to 3 years down the road, but I think they really like this kid and are willing to give Trent or Brian Brohm one last chance while they try and develop him. If not. Next year the QB class is extremely strong with 3-4 first round QBs. Other names to watch out for Levi Brown, QB from Troy and Jevan Snead QB from Ole Miss.

Then lookout for OLB. Eric Norwood from South Carolina, George Selvie from South Florida, and Everson Griffen from USC.

After the 1st rd it is so hard to produce the talent lists, because all you have is mostly amateur mocks based off of other mocks that aren't coming from actual NFL club scouts.

personally I thought the 2nd and 3rd rd had lots of players coming off the boards that weren't rated to go 2nd and 3rd rds... Which should say something about all the mocks people depend upon to make thier judgements

Needless to say we all are back in the trust "insert new FO personel's name" mode. SO I choose to beleive we picked intelligently this year like we ended up doing last year. (Outside of the Maybin reach)
