roosevelt will make this team. we need 3 recievers just to fill our slots on the 53 man roster to replace reed, owens and you can guarantee now parrish is gone with his salary. in my opinion our opening day recievers are easy to see. evans, johnson, hardy, easly (rookie), roosevelt (rookie), and jackson. no way roosevelt doesnt make the roster, he is the prototype possession reciever we need. and i firmly believe that steve johnson starts across evans to start the year and moves into the slot in 3 wide sets to let hardy work the outside, but its finally johnsons year to shine.

jimbohastle51

who would u compare roosevelt with?

in my opinion he has torry holt type skills. he only 6' and doesnt have elite speed but he is a very good route runner and catches ANYTHING throw in his vicinity. he is the type of guy (like holt used to be) that will get 15-20 yards down field and catch a ball in traffic and get away from defenders. he just has great hands, and playing in a city where bad weather is a guarantee speed isnt as important as catching a ball that isnt perfectly thrown or catching it in traffic, and this will be his specialty.

I believe that Roosevelt did run a 4.62 at his pro day (didn't attend the combine). I remember reading quite a bit about where he'd go in the draft before his pro day, then not much after that. I think his lack of speed really hurt his chances of getting chosen.

That being said, it seems obvious to me that the Bills are really trying to find a flanker across from Evans. All of our WR's (except Parrish, Evans) seem to fit a similar mold. I don't mind - we need possession receivers. I could easily see Evans, Johnson, Hardy, Easley, and Roosevelt all making the team.

With what Nix has said, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills try to use a lot of sets with two bigger guys on the outside with Evans and Spiller used significantly in the slot.

Tell you what, I really like that list so far. Considering Nix said specifically that they like the DB's they brought in, and the fans are all supportive of the non-DB's they're picking up as UDFA's...

I wouldn't be surprised to see 3-4 guys just off of that list make it onto the roster.

I, too, really wanted Freddie Barnes, but I am in no way upset with Roosevelt as a UDFA.

Some highlights form this list - Guys with a good shot.

Joique Bell won the Harlon Hill trophy- The Heisman of Div. II at Wayne St. 5-11 223 4.6. - 2009 he ran for 2084 yards.- 29 TD's. Between the tackles type but hits the hole flying and runs with power. Sounds like Lynch in build ( hint ).

Sean Allen of ECU was the 6th rated Center and projected for round 6 - 6-3 305 - 2 year starter. Thick lower body. Powerful run blocker. Keeps his feet. Drives defenders back. Can play C & G.

WR Donald Jones of Youngstown St. - 6 ft 214 - 2 year starter - Good size and hands. Excellent leaping ability. Good run after catch. Needs technique work

Antonio Coleman - Auburn - 6-1 1/2 255 - 3 year starter - rare production with 80 tackles for negative yardage. Rush DE who will convert to a 3-4 OLB. Good leverage. Long arms & big hands. Excellent 1st step. Limited coverage ability. Impact hitter who never shys away from contact. Physically & mentally tough.

5 arms in camp is one too many. If another newbie is brought in, one of the incumbents has to go.

I disagree, I think 5 arms is the perfect amount to have in camp. Your first three get 75-80% of the work, your 4th gets 10-15% and your 5th gets 5%.

Basically it breaks down to;
1-25%
2-25%
3-25%
4-20%
5-5%

You know 1 of the top 3 is likely getting cut as long as your 4th shows you something, and your 5th is a PS player. That's the ideal situation to me, given we are having an open QB competition.

DraftBoy

Some other guys still available;
WR AJ Jackson-California (Pa.)
NT Tommie Duhart-Valdosta
NT Callahan Bright-Shaw
WR Chris Bell-Norfolk State
RB LaMarcus Coker-Hampton
NT Abe Koroma-Western Ill

Now the most interesting name on that list should be Callahan Bright who is a former top HS recruit.

It looks good from a % standpoint, but from strictly numbers it isn't really effective, especially for the fifth guy. If you run a 20-play drill, that breaks down to 5-5-5-4-1. 40 plays = 10-10-10-8-2. No point, IMO.

Sure you can swap the guys around on the 'depth chart' and distribute the plays more evenly, but after 10 reps of a forty play drill (assuming #4 and #5 alternate) that's 50 plays (or an entire drill plus) that could have been used by the other four guys.

IMO the more plays for the 'top end' guys the better. We need to maximize practice time to find a capable starter, not somebody that's suitable for the practice squad. Hell, we can pick up a PS player anytime...let another team waste their reps on them.

The point of him is to watch and learn, he takes more mental reps than actual reps. He gets to take the majority of his reps in games.

I wouldnt swap them around at all. He gets probably 10-15 actual reps per practice, which is perfect for a 5th QB on the roster. You shouldnt try and equal out his reps, he should basically be out there to give the other guys time to get water and go over things with coaches. His development is intentionally very slow and that's why he is a PS player.

I think it's 80 (it was prior to '09 TC, anyway), and we have 73 currently on the roster.

I can see your logic to a certain point, but still...

--It takes away from a roster spot that could be used for a position that puts more than one guy on the field at a time and will take up more spots on the final roster (LB, CB, WR, O-line, etc)

--I'd rather not see a QB on the PS anyway, for the reason above. Bigger chance of somebody getting pulled up to the regular roster due to injury and actually contribute. I'd rather have one of the previously mentioned positions practicing with the team on a daily basis.

--The difference between 4 and 5 isn't going to affect water breaks, coach time etc. There's only one (two tops, depending on the drill) on the practice field at a time.

Not trying to imply having four = right, five = wrong, or vice versa, just I would prefer to stick with four.

All your points are solid, I just feel better with 5 instead of 4.

Like you said Im nto for sure right or you wrong, just a difference in preference.
