i dont care that we got another DE/OLB, but i can't find anything on him.

Technically, he'll be an OLB for us. The FO is clearly going all D for the rest of the draft and leaving the O for next year!

The steelers have been using this formula for years, and continued to do so today. Loading up on OLB is a good thing, especially since we switched to the 34.

Will play LB here.

If he makes the team that is.

DE or OLB in 3-4? Too lazy to look him up.

He'll convert to Strong Side Backer or depth inside. Solid pick!

Overview
Each year a few Football Championship Subdivision (FCS, former D1AA) players sneak into the late rounds of the draft and have successful NFL careers. Batten's work ethic, versatility, strength and hustle endear him to NFL teams looking for guys willing to make plays on special teams and, potentially, get involved on offense or defense as they adjust to the speed of the game.

Batten earned All-American honors and finished third in the Buck Buchanan Award voting, given to the top defender in the FCS, after accumulating 85 tackles, 17 for loss, and nine sacks at the strong-side end spot for the Jackrabbits. The four-year starter had already won first-team all-conference honors twice, racking up 75 tackles, 14.5 for loss and eight sacks in his junior year and 67-12-4.5 in 2006. He started 10 of 11 games as a true freshman, making 46 stops, 9.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Minnesota found out that Batten wasn't just teeing off against lesser competition, as the Gophers almost lost to SDSU thanks to his 12 tackles, 1.5 for loss and sack. Whether teams use Batten as a defensive end (like Montana alum/Atlanta Falcon Kroy Biermann) or linebacker (Cal Poly alum/Philadelphia Eagle Chris Gocong), where he played during Texas vs. the Nation practices, he'll be a solid player likely to stick in the league for some time.

Analysis
Pass rush: Often used on the strong side because of his run-stopping ability, so pass rush came mostly from hustle and effort. Keeps coming after initial punch from tackle. Has good speed, flexibility and hand play to turn the corner if used that way. Stood up on some occasions to blitz inside gaps or come off the edge. Keeps his eyes in the backfield and gets hands up to deflect passes, but does not own the length to block many.

Run defense: Plays with leverage, standing strong against much bigger offensive tackles and able to disengage to reach the ball when it comes by him. Also moves down the line while engaged. Comes downhill when standing up to blow up fullbacks or attack the ballcarrier. Maintains containment on his side of the line. Rips off tight end blocks easily with strong hands. Will be engulfed by NFL tackles.

Explosion: Lacks elite quickness or pop for a strong-side defensive end but uses violent hands and has enough get-off to pressure the tackle's outside shoulder on a pass rush.

Strength: Plays with leverage and is quite strong for his size but lacks the bulk to turn tackles or push the pocket at the next level. May be best off playing linebacker in order to match up against tight ends or get the jump on tackles off the edge. Should handle most tight ends playing the nine-technique against the run and in coverage.

Tackling: Exceptional hustle and chase on the edge, whether the play is in front of or behind him. Plays low and changes directions well. Wraps and rarely lets go, even though his arms are not as long as many NFL defenders. Goes through the ballcarrier and delivers a serious blow on almost every tackle.

Intangibles: Durable, consistent, high-effort performer who plays hard through the fourth quarter. Vocal leader who congratulates teammates and lets them know when they did not complete their assignment.

He can pack a punch. Hard hitter. I've heard he could slide to inside linebacker, or play on the outside.

Good character guy, good leader and very vocal.

There's one good thing that's being made obvious in this draft...bye bye Kelsay!!! They'll have to eat his contract (unless they can swing a trade) but I'm glad he won't be starting for us anymore!

NOT THE DUDE...

Yes a ILB or OLB more than likely ILB we are short on depth at LB ..we need eight solid guys .. and Ellison ain't one of them so i will take him to get Ellison off the roster....

Kelsay cannot play DE in s 3-4 alignment (of course he couldn't play DE in a 4-3 either). But in a 3-4, he'd have to switch to OLB and he'd make a poor one...so in my opinion, he doesn't fit anywhere on the team. I hope they can trade him so they don't have to eat his poorly thought out contract!
