Because from what I can see, he's a s a sure thing as OLB as we have.

He can rush QBs, no question. And his coverage skill is not too shabby either. You figured that among him, Kelsay, Ellison, Ellis, somebody is getting cut.

Kelsay or Ellison would be welcomed cuts. Schobel or no Schobel.

Its time to clean out the trash.

Ellis is an enigma. Could he thrive as an OLB in a 3-4? I believe that is where he was projected to play before the draft. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Honestly Im ok with him retiring, we all saw how badly this experiment went for Kampman last year, and Id rather give younger guys more time.

You are correct, he was projected as a potential 3-4 OLB switch.

Yes I believe he's projected as a 3-4 DE.

I'd prefer he retired also. Give the PT to the younger guys that have a better long term potential for the position, and use the saved bonus money to grab another body or two after some cuts go down.

I'll miss him when he's gone. He's been a great player for us. I hope he plays and has another 10+ sacks.

I agree. Schobel needs to be gone. Thanks for your service but it's time for a new system and regime to take over.

so what is stroud going to play? DE?

I believe so, although I would imagine they bounce him to a 1 in some instances as well, depending on what the defense is looking for on a particular play.

It's strictly a guess but based on their skill sets in college, Maybin and Ellis could thrive as 3-4 OLB's. Both are cat quick off the snap. Can't wait to see them in camp.

Schobel is the only proven pass rusher the team has. I am sure they will be better without him. Fortunately the previous front office was astute enough to stock pile 3-4 outside linebackers so the Bills have more than enough talent to fill Schobel's shoes.

yea I'd like to see Schobel come back especially if it meant the Ellison is cut, he is wayyy too small to play in the 3-4 and does not blitz well...so hes worthless to us.

if schobel comes back it would only be 1 of 2 that would probably be cut. kelsay or ellis and honestly they are both garbage so either way it doesnt pain me at all.

Just because we will primarily be a 3-4 doesn't mean we won't use some 4-3 looks like New England. And moving to OLB could actually rejuvinate Schobel if we limit his snaps, like Dallas did with Greg Ellis his last couple years in Dallas when he was very productive for the time he was in. You can't have enough pass rushers. I am firmly in the "hope he comes back" camp.

He was solid without a Bruce Smith opposite him.

Definitely belongs to the bills' Wall of Fame

I hope he comes back. He has always been solid when he's had to drop back in coverage during a zone blitz and has made some athletic plays in the past.

No.

It won't bother me seeing the Garbage Time Sack Master leave.

I'm with you.

He has no inside move, he gets sacks in bunches then disappears for weeks at a time, and I definitely disagree with the original poster on his coverage ability. Back in the Jerry Gray days, the Bills ran a lot of zone blitzes which dropped Schobel in coverage, and he looked just as awkward as you'd expect a defensive lineman to look while doing it.

Despite that, he's still the best 4-3 DE on the current roster. I'm just not sure if he'll fit the new D.

Time to go Aaron, OBD needs a fresh attitude on both sides of the ball.
