    Lassiter signs with San Diego

Another Zonie is fleeing the heat for San Diego.

Safety Kwamie Lassiter, who spent eight years with the Cardinals, signed a three-year deal Monday with the Chargers and is expected to compete with Ryan McNeil for the starting free safety job.

"Any time you can add a tough, hard-nosed, experienced and productive player to your football team, it can only be a positive," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said. "We feel like we've signed an outstanding player in Kwamie Lassiter."

Lassiter, 33, follows wide receiver David Boston from Arizona to San Diego. Boston signed with the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent.

The Cardinals tried for almost two years to sign Lassiter to a multiyear deal but were unable to reach an agreement. Lassiter was the team's franchise player last season, earning $3.34 million.
