The wraps are off.

For the first time this year, non-Browns employees will witness the highly publicized battle for No. 1 between quarterbacks Tim Couch and Kelly Holcomb.

Cleveland Coach Butch Davis is allowing the media to watch the team's six scheduled practices in its final mini-camp today through Thursday at the Browns' Berea headquarters.

The general public won't get to see Couch and Holcomb until training camp begins for veterans July 25. By then, the two will have been through the off-season program, 13 days of ``quarterback school'' and a minicamp. Davis said last week he will name his starter by Aug. 23, when Cleveland visits Detroit for its third preseason game.

Thus far, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Couch has been able to handle the challenge. He said Couch and Holcomb won't waste a snap in minicamp or training camp.

The team must pick either Tim Couch or Kelly Holcomb. The two are anxious but prepared to compete.
Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis says he sleeps better at night knowing that he has two capable quarterbacks, but that doesn't help Tim Couch or Kelly Holcomb at bedtime.

Couch and Holcomb are still waiting for Davis to decide which of them will be the Browns' starting quarterback this season, and it appears they will be waiting for a few more weeks.

"You never know," said Davis, remaining noncommittal. "You really never know. We'll have one when we play Indianapolis [in the season opener] for sure."...more (http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/nfl/6155159.htm)

BEREA, Ohio -- Kelly Holcomb is dropping out of the Cleveland Browns' heated quarterback derby on Thursday morning. He has a much more important starting assignment.

Holcomb has to be at the hospital at 7:30 a.m. His wife, Lorie, is having the couple's third child.

"I'm excited, I really am," said Holcomb, who is battling Tim Couch to be the Browns' starting quarterback. "I know my wife is anxious to get it over with. In the hot heat of summer, she's ready to go." ...
