On the heels of assembling their 2010 rookie class, the Bills college scouting department has added to their ranks and promoted three others. On Wednesday the Bills announced the hiring of Darrell Moody as the team’s National Scout.

Moody joins the Bills after spending the previous eight seasons with the San Diego Chargers as a College Scout where he covered the Southeast region.

Prior to joining San Diego in 2002, Moody accumulated 31 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and high school levels. In the collegiate ranks he held coaching positions at North Carolina State (1973-74, 76-79, 97), Southern Mississippi (1975), LSU (1980-83), Appalachian State (1984), Tulane (1985-87), North Carolina (1988-95, 98-00) and Clemson (1996).

A native of Asheboro, NC, Moody played quarterback at North Carolina State from 1968-70 where he earned a degree in economics and a master’s in vocational education.

Increased roles for Hand, Leak, LaFlamme
The Bills also announced that Matt Hand has been elevated to Area Scout, working primarily in the Midwest, from his previous responsibilities as the team’s BLESTO Scout.

Hand served as a college scouting assistant from 2005-07 and was a former intern in the club’s player personnel department in 2004.

C.J. Leak will now handle the responsibilities as the organization’s BLESTO Scout, having joined the Bills prior to the 2008 season as a pro personnel assistant.

Michael LaFlamme, who has served the past two years as a college scouting assistant, will add pro personnel assignments to his responsibilities.

Even though Modrak is the director of college scouting, this move has all the signature of Buddy Nix.

Few realized how many scouts went west when Butler left the Bills. Donahoe and Modrak re-built the whole scouting Dept. A decade of futility and spotty draft record changed everything. Modrak, used to be a prime candidate for every open GM job, is no longer being held at such a lofty statue. Now he's another scouting background guy as his boss, things may be finally changing.

Moody essentially replaces Nix's position of National Scout. So, region wise, he has no region. I think that Modrak is essentially a super scout who answers now only to Nix.
