Madise catching on with help from Smith

By Patrick Saunders, Denver Post Sports Writer
A few days after the NFL draft in April, the phone rang at Rod Smith's house.

On the other end of the line was 23-year-old wide receiver Adrian Madise, the Broncos' fifth-round draft choice from Texas Christian.

Knowing Smith's reputation as a tireless worker and a perfectionist in the art of pass catching, and knowing there were already a bunch of talented young receivers in the Broncos' stable, Madise figured he'd get a head start on his fledgling NFL career.

"I wanted Rod to know that I was coming, and I wanted him to be prepared because I was going to be asking a ton of questions," Madise said. "I wanted him to be prepared and know that I was going to try to take some of the things from his game and add them to mine. To be the best, you have to learn from the best."
