    Brohm to participate this weekend

Bills quarterback Brian Brohm will be participating in the team’s weekend rookie minicamp starting on Friday.
Head coach Chan Gailey is permitted to invite all first and second year players to attend the club’s rookie minicamp this weekend on a voluntary basis. Brohm, being a second-year player was eligible to attend and is excited about getting started.
“Its definitely a fresh start for everyone on the roster,” Brohm told Buffalobills.com. ”Some guys have struggled in the past, but are going to get more opportunities coming up this year to show what they have to the new coaching staff. Everyone is starting on an even foot and these coaches will develop new opinions of you and they won’t be tainted by what’s happened in the past. I think it’s a great opportunity.”
For more on Brohm’s thoughts about this weekend check out our exclusive one-on-one interview with Brohm in the media lounge and get his take on getting a head start in the quarterback competition on the home page.

              Brohm, McKelvin, Levitre at camp

Cornerback Leodis McKelvin, guard Andy Levitre and quarterback Brian Brohm were among the high-profile young players participating in the Buffalo Bills' minicamp this morning at One Bills Drive. Players who have two years experience or less were invited to join the rookies at the three-day event.
Other veterans with regular-season experience on the field today included linebacker Aaron Maybin, cornerback Reggie Corner, safety Jon Corto, linebacker Chris Ellis, receiver Steve Johnson, tackle Jamon Meredith and tight ends Shawn Nelson, Jonathan Stupar and Joe Klopfenstein. There were 50 players on the field.
The Bills worked out for about an hour and 10 minutes on the grass field. They have another session of about 75 minutes scheduled this afternoon.
Brohm and rookie seventh-round draft pick Levi Brown were the two quarterbacks throwing passes. One of the best catches of the morning was by University at Buffalo product Naaman Roosevelt, who made a nice adjustment to the ball over his outside shoulder and hauled in a 55-yard throw from Brohm. Rookie cornerback Stephan Virgil was in coverage. Rookie fourth-round pick Marcus Easley had a nice diving catch on a throw from Brohm.
Asked where Brohm stacks up on the QB depth chart, coach Chan Gailey said: "There’s not a first or a third right now. That’s the situation. We’re going to go to camp with it being an open deal. If you say that, then it’s gotta be. You can’t just say it and then get to camp and you already got your mind made up or you stack it up a different way. To me anybody has a chance to win the job right now. That’s really the way it is. It’s not just lip service."
Brohm said he expects 70 percent of the base offense to be installed this weekend.
Gailey on that subject: "We put in more than some teams might put in because I would like to challenge these guys mentally. That’s part of the process too. How much can they retain from the classroom to the field? That’s one of the challenges I gave these guys. It’s incumbent on them to go back at night and not just flip on the TV or a movie but to spend time in the playbook."

Buffalo’s rookies along with first and second-year players got things going on the practice field Friday morning on the team’s grass field. The players had to dodge some raindrops later on during the morning session, but were able to finish the hour-plus workout before the field got too slick.
“It’s always good to get on the field,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “You can only talk football so much. You need to be on the grass or on the field and be able to go see who can do what on the field.”

Safety was where there was a noticeable change as Jon Corto has returned to a position he played early in his college career at Sacred Heart. He’s changed his jersey number from 57 to 33 to accommodate the position change. We’ll have more on Corto’s new spot later this weekend.

Did I miss something or is James Hardy not participating? If he isn't that can't say much for him. He needs all the work he can get in my opinion.

Brian Brohm transcript from Rookie Minicamp

                              BUFFALO BILLS ROOKIE MINI-CAMP
                              Quarterback Brian Brohm
                              Friday, May 7, 2010

On starting fresh with a new coaching staff:
It’s fun to be back out there on the field and just getting back into football, playing against a defense, seeing how the offense would unfold. We’ve been doing a lot of work in the classroom with coach Gailey and coach Cortez and to finally get out here and see it all in action was a lot of fun.

On getting more reps by volunteering to come in for this mini-camp:
Definitely is a no-brainer. It’s an opportunity for me to get better, to get in here and get familiar with the offense. Anytime you can get some extra reps, I think the more reps you have the better you’re going to play, the more comfortable and confident you’re going to play. So it was definitely good for me to be here.

On if feels he will get a fair opportunity to win the starting job:
I feel like I am. I think what coach says is what he’s going to do. So it’s a great opportunity for me. I just have to focus on myself, become the best player that I can be and not really worry about how the other guys are doing.

On coming to Buffalo and getting a clean slate and fresh start:
I think things have worked out so far making the decision. I had a decision to stay in Green Bay or come here and decided to come here. I felt like it would be a better opportunity for me. It’s worked out that way and I just have to take advantage of the opportunity that’s in front of me.

On if he watched any of this year’s Draft:
I’m not going to lie, I did watch the Draft. I’ve watched it for probably the last five years so it’s nothing new for me to watch. I’m a huge football fan first off and I have a personal interest in what was going to happen. So I definitely watched it.
